I am nearly $13k into my BRZ and I agree that in stock form there were some things left. I guess this was the best they could do given the cost constraints (entry level sports car) or the marketing target (fun to drive). If someone wants to have a "ready" car from day one, then yes STI is a good alternative (among other options). If on the other hand someone wants to personalize his car and work on a black canvas, then I don't think there is any other better offering. Probably, our cars are pretty much unique in this aspect.

Agree 100%. I've said that from the beginning. The 86/BRZ were designed to be a blank canvas. The possibilities are endless. The chassis is so versatile, that it can be used for so many different things: time attack, autox, drifting, rally, etc.

Buy it and make it your own. To do so though, you need to spend time and money. Both of which I'm not willing to spend much of lol.

I know the bug will hit again and I'll get another project car some day. For the time being though, I'm enjoying the simplicity of what I have.

You missed daily driver in an almost stock state. As much as this forum may make it appear otherwise that is what the vast majority will be used for.

Oh of course. I suppose that can be implied with the "etc"

Mine was a DD when I owned it. I owned the car for 2 years (was deployed for 9 months of it) and drove the car 20k miles. When you consider the fact that I lived on post for half that timeframe and my daily commute was less than 10 miles, you can see how much I actually drove the car.

I averaged like 600 miles a month in daily driving and running errands. Multiply that by the 15 months I actually drove it and I'm at 9k miles. The remaining 11k miles was between back roads, going to and from track days, road trips, etc.

The 2017MY seems to have addressed some of the things I didn't care for on the previous gen car. I drove it and while it didn't really feel any quicker, the shorter gearing was noticeable and was a nice change.

My wife kind of wants one to replace her Focus ST, because she misses my old one a bit from time to time, as do I. Maybe we'll end up getting her one.
