I have boosted before the warranty expired, will never regret, and look back. I've risked it, and if I break it, I will fix it. I am actually looking forward to drive my car everyday. Warranty is something less to worry about while enjoying my car.

And THAT is the way it should be right there. If you want to worry about warranty then leave the car bone stock (yes even tires) and stay away from any event that could be twisted to be "abuse".

I decided that spending 1/2 hour driving to the dealership, sitting in their waiting room waiting for diagnosis, driving a 1/2 hour home, hopefully without a diagnosis bill in hand, waiting for them to order the part, driving back for a 1/2 hour, waiting for the repair, then driving back home again wasn't worth my time to save $120 on a part and a bit of grease under my fingernails. No problem for me now, I learned my lesson, my car has >60k miles on it, buying a car with a warranty is a waste of money where Toyota/Subaru is concerned, I have no faith they'll stand behind their products, I'll save a few thousand bucks and buy used from here on out. I've got two coilpacks on order right now, USPS is saying they'll be delivered tomorrow. And they've dropped the price down to ~$80 which is nice. What was the fix? I must have missed it I haven't seen anything, care to provide a link? I'm very interested as I've sunk a bit less than $300 into coilpacks so far, it'd be nice to not have to buy any more. With my luck they revised the part number and I got mine for cheap because they're old stock and destined to blow again.

IMHO, most production cars are designed, engineered and built for average driving. So, the twins are sporty cars ...... that doesn't mean they can be tracked extensively and not expected to have certain parts give out and be covered under warranty. To me, the manufactures warranty is designed to cover manufacturing defects, under normal use, for a certain period of time. If I spend all day running up and down Pikes Peak and burn up a set of brake pads and warp the rotors ...... I wouldn't expect the manufacturer to replace the rotors under warranty. If you plan on beating the hell out of your machine on a race track ...... be prepared to fix some stuff at your expense ........ ![]() humfrz |

He must be refering to wrapping the coil packs in reflective gold tape. That has worked for almost everyone. It didnt quite work for me, they lasted longer, but still went. Adding hood vents + the gold tape has make them last it seems (4 track days no problem so far, usually after 2 or 3 I start getting the code).

Wow - a lot of complaining in this thread!
Anyway, this is up to the dealer. Do not - for even a second - think the dealer will not blame the manufacturer for something that makes a customer, or potential customer, unhappy. It happens, and that is why you need to find a good dealer to take your car to. No car company will cover everything you might imagine should be covered - none. Spending "a few thousand" to make a customer happy sounds good to the customer, but consider how much money the dealer and manufacturer make on that car when sold. And then consider how many cars a dealer and manufacturer get in for warranty work! Yes, all the customers are contributing to provide the money to cover warranty work - all. Car companies are not charitable, they want to make a profit by maximizing sales volume and minimizing expenses. I agree that you should provide only the basic problem for the dealer to diagnose and not go into detail about what happened or might have happened. I buy Toyotas for reliability, i.e., they last a long time without needing much repair. If you get a lemon, try to get the manufacturer to replace it with an equal value car early - if you bought it new. I am looking to get a twin to track - but I am particularly looking for ones with high mileage so I can beat on it comfortably!! |

Details in the original post. Basically engine leans out during quick shifts at high revs and backfires. When this happens a few times the direct injector seal pops. Toyota issued a Tech Support Bulliten and have supplied a new engine map to prevent this happening.
