Out goes the spare, in goes the shelf. Yes controversial choice but I don't really drive the car far anyway and when I do, I can put the spare back in. Either way have AAA to cover if anything does happen.

Don't worry about not having a spare. I put 112k on mine and drove across the country numerous times. Most accidents occur closest to home. I used the spare once, in town, close to home. I think most people like to imagine a nightmare situation where they're thousands of miles away from civilization, wishing they had a spare. That's not reality at all though. Typically you're driving less than 100 miles a day. If you're going on a long trip, sure. Bring the spare. Otherwise it's fine.

Yeah for sure. In all these years of driving, I've only ever gotten one minor puncture that was easily patched *knock on wood. Even if I didn't bring my spare on a very long distance trip, I don't see myself driving the BRZ on my own; it would most likely be some cruise or a group trip to a car show or something where I could also bum off someone elses' spare too if I really needed it. The decrease in weight actually feels great on acceleration, and so far even on hard cornering I'm not feeling much of any negative impact from removing weight from the back of the car, which I know people have expressed concern about impacting the weight distribution of the car. Although, I do have the OEM audio in the back too which adds some weight there.

Did you notice any extra bounce in the rear from the removal of the tire?
I actually tried this back in the day with my stock springs and it felt as if the rear became more bouncy.

There is a tire repair kit that is nice to have. It fits exactly on the right case of the cover.



The left case of the cover is for the car books & manuals.


About the difference in acceleration, I am not sure how you can feel it. A total save of 15-20 lbs. is not that much. You'll need at least 100 lbs. to have a noticeable difference. The latter weight save will give you an acceleration increase of about +7hp.

I'll see about adding it. The tire repair kits typically aren't really effective regardless and if anything, makes the area a mess which then gets in the way for when the tire is properly patched at a reputable shop. We'll see though, maybe for added peace of mind or something.

I'm currently contemplating putting in a set of Recaro Sportster CS (some will say finally); however, I will say I have decided NOT to install the actual STi branded ones from the JDM tS, partly because (1) the red and black trimmed version is not available for purchase and I refuse to add the grey ones, and (2) it makes more sense to add a "generic" version of the seats as it is easier to either transfer them to a future car and/or sell them at a later time. I do have a specific set in mind (I'm not just purchasing the base "black" trimmed version), but still planning a few things before I pull the trigger (there's still a chance I will decide not to).

Anyone happen to know how easy/hard it is to transfer the passenger occupancy sensor from the stock seat to the recaro?

You should check with Recaro Japan. They have the necessary frames and rails per car and seat model. I ordered a frame once and it had a passenger air bag cancellation kit. However, it was for the Recaro Pole Position. I don't know what is included with the Sportster CS seat.

Oh I'm fine on the frames/rails. Physically installing the seat is not an issue (also, if anything, Japanparts sells the full base for it) nor is wiring the side air bag connections with resistors. It's the actual occupancy sensor that activates the passenger airbag (and turns on the warnings for the seat belt and airbag on the dashboard) that I'm concerned about. I've seen people transfer the sensor over from their stock seats but looking for someone who may have had experience doing it for a recaro sportster. I'm hoping I can unbolt the bottom base of the seat and slide in the sensor from there without having to actually remove any of the upholstery/foam.
