Besides, all the concerns raised about the complications stemming from the tail light conversion have swayed me from pursuing that idea. So there's that. You're reading too much into this. Chill out. |

So you think you are just going to drop the engine in, hook up a harness and drive away? Good luck with that . So all of them are "too good to be true"? If you want a Supra it would still be cheaper in the long run to actually buy a Supra and fix it up. You would also end up with a car that is actually worth something. And a final note (see bold), you are not talking about building a Supra you are talking about putting an engine in a FRS. It is more than the "inherent characteristics of it's power plant" that make the Supra drivable at higher horsepower.

Thank you everyone for your input. The many impractical issues raised concerning the complexities of the tail light conversion have swayed me from pursuing it.

Go read the swap threads and see how easy it is. If you figure you are going to swap for the price of the engine and a $500 slush fund you better be able to shit rainbows because you will need all the rainbow power you can get. Nothing wrong with having a dream but you have not done enough research yet to have a solid idea of what is involved. My youngest child is older than you and my oldest grandson is half your age. Not sure who is the one with little experience here.

Tcoat probably works in like a Staples warehouse or something. There's no way he holds a legit job with his attitude. Having said that, I wouldn't put unemployed passed him based on the frequency of his massively insightful and positive posts. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I've kept quiet and observed as my first car passion was Supras (for those that know me), but this right here:
Quote:
You're likely looking at a full rebuild of the engine and turbos, significantly raising the cost of the build. Not to mention the weight difference here. The 2J setup is 100lbs heavier and will sit farther forward, and that's JUST the engine/trans and not the intercooler and piping. You'd be better off boosting the FA20 weight wise if your goal is so low for the motor. Of course you could also just get an IS300, SC300, or GS300 for super cheap and in the case of the SC300, have the entire suspension setup of a Supra as well. Your money, but I've seen enough dead engine swaps in my days (especially when it comes to Supras) to want to see another one. |

You clearly don't know what you're talking about. Take your "respect all builds" mentality elsewhere. All it does is propegate mediocrity and idiocy.

Nobody was "slagging" anybody but simply pointing out some issues. If he wants to lash out at them and not hear what is being said that is his problem. Quote:

As far as employment goes you are basing your incredibly wrong statement on zero evidence and are so radically wrong you couldn't get worse. This is one of the nicest forums I have ever been on and if you would look beyond your own interests you would see that. Just because we don't always hold hands and sing kumbaya doesn't mean we mostly don't get along.

FYI, Tcoat is older than most of us by age, make a tons more money than both of em combined, and have knowledge in automotive than most of us here... at least he research and before he post. My 2 yen is, do whatever you want. If you think you can do it, sure go for it. Take lover's or hater's comment as a grain of salt. It's YOUR money... BUT please do report back proving the haters that, they're wrong & they're stupid... or proving the haters that, they're right & you're stupid. Online forum is all about proof. ...but in the end, all I wanna say is STOP MAKING DUPLICATE THREAD! FIND YOUR DAMN ORIGINAL THREAD & KEEP IT THERE! Pointless to make multiple threads & keep merging em. |

Listen man, it doesn't matter how old he is or how much money he has, he's obsessed with being negative and shitting all over whoever his desired target is. If he's so knowledgable and practical why doesn't he just share knowledge instead of 'that won't work, idiot'. Anyways, I offered him an invitation to meet up and hash this out like adults - time will tell if the hallowed sage will take me up on it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
