The Celica is dead and should stay that way...but bring back the Supra and the MR2 (not MR-S)
This car is not a Corolla either. I much prefer the Celica name over the Corolla name. And also the Celica brought life to the Supra so I don't understand your hate for the name considering you want the Supra name to be revive. And I think cars with number names sound so BMW/Merc/Audi-ish.

Besides I think one of the first crashes was actually a race prepped drift car, and we know that driver is "typical".

I don't think this is a car that people are buying for the badge.. People are buying it for themselves because they want it. A coworker asked me what kind of car I was getting, and I said the Scion FR-S, and she was like wtf a scion? Didn't bother explaining it to her, she wouldn't understand.

Personally I can care less what a magazine writer sayz, or a TV show host, or a "expert" All I care about is what it feels like to drive when I am sitting in the seat. And I like it. I did not buy it for someone else.

I didn't even have to think twice about this car. Scion is a badge. The car is a Toyota to me; it should be a Toyota to anyone with sense.

I have a 1994 Toyota Soarer which to some is a Lexus ... but to me it's a Toyota. Hell, a Lexus LFA is still a Toyota to me.

People care too much about sub brands and silly things. Toyota could have released this car under any name and it wouldn't matter much to me.

Toyota fans should start protesting against the scion brand, and make it right, every toyota forum should start organizing there members and set a date, its not impossible to end the misery

I think the Scion pick was a poor one based on a single criteria: Availability.
I had never paid attention to the Scion brand until now. I looked around and there is only ONE Scion dealership in Nova Scotia. There are TEN Toyota dealerships!
I understand the difference as the vast majority of people don't give a crap about the Scion brand.
WHY would you launch a very cool new car under a brand that has very little distribution?
Just from an east coast Canadian perspective:
Prince Edward Island: 0 Scion Dealers
Newfoundland: 0 Scion dealers
Nova Scotia: 1 Scion dealer
New Brunswick: 2 Scion dealers

The above territory has 26 Toyota dealers!!

Shane D

Unless they are looking for exclusivity (which makes no sense at this price point), it is a poor strategy.

They're definitely cashing in on the AE86's cult status to hype the car, but really, in terms of size, weight, styling, it's much more a modern version of a 70s or 80s rwd Celica than the AE86. And it's really more a modern S13 240SX than anything else.

But of course it's a lot easier to build hype around AE86 mystique given that the Celica had been fwd (or fwd-base awd) since around 1986 or so.

Anyway, I like "FR-S" better than "Celica" or "GT86" or "BRZ" for this car.

Regarding it being Scion instead of Toyota, the only thing I don't like is there's no factory leather available. I do like the Scion badge about a million times better than Toyota's bumpy/lumpy/dumpy looking badge of ellipses...

The decision for Toyota was easy, "this is the car we will use to change Scion's perception, and get it going".

I don't understand what all the fuss is about. I buy my things for ME personally, not for what other people think. If I were to have bought an FR-S, I would KNOW where the car is coming from, how different it is from other Scions that I did not like and would not care ONE BIT about what other people might think. We are all adults here and pardon my words but this type of conflict shows a lot of immaturity in some here.

That seems like a regional Canada issue. Every American Toyota dealership I've been to so far (in the West, Pacific Northwest, and Midwest) has Scion reps to sell the FR-S.

Nobody wants this car to be a Scion. Some of you may be able to live with the fact that it is a Scion, but given the choice, would you rather see Scion or Toyota badges adorning your car? Would you rather have a mono-spec model or actual trim levels to choose from? Would you rather be associated with cars like the Celica, Supra, MR2 and 2000GT or with cars like the xA, xB, xD and tC? Think about it that way and maybe you'll see why so many of us are pissed off about Toyota's decision. I can't get a Toyota 86 GT Limited anymore, and I'm pissed off. I've owned 9 Toyotas in the past 7 years, but my next car will have the Stars of Pleiades on it. Oh well, at least they haven't forgotten how to properly market a car and offer trim levels that people actually want.
Exactly the reason I took back my deposit at toyota/scion and bought a BRZ.

Plus, I cant deal with that ricey interior.

I would have preferred if the FRS had the Toyota badge. Just because When I tell friends and coworkers my girlfriend just bought a Scion FRS, they automatically think box car. Then I go on to say...... "well it is a RWD sports car codeveloped by Toyota and Subaru bla bla bla bla" as I see a blank expression develop on their face.... or just tell them "it is basically a RWD Celica replacement" Then suddenly they are all "wow that's cool can I see a picture of it" But if I say Its a new Subaru sports car, then opposite happens. people tend to walk away from me without the slightest interest.

I have always had love for both the old school corolla and all celicas. I was raised in them. My pops first brand new car was a 85 corolla GTS and my moms first car was a first gen celica.

As for the hatred or distaste for the Celica, I don't really understand it. At least in my experience it was (stock vs stock) as fast or a little faster than a Integra GSR and out handled it. And I have kept up well with non STI WRX's very well in corners.
