So much fun. No power steering, so plenty of feedback but requires plenty of effort in tight corners and counter steering. The car in it's current form loves to rotate when lifting or braking but will immediately hook up when you get back on the gas. I'm still learning to trust it, because at first, it felt like the car wanted to murder you with the back end immediately coming around when you lift and steer at the same time... getting back on the gas early and trusting it is incredibly rewarding.

I have this wild (probably stupid) dream of putting Hoosiers on the car and trying out SSP after nationals.

Thanx for the video, the auto seems to shift pretty good.
But that manual steering looks like a handful, the unwinding power seems to want to rip off some arms!!!

Question to anyone running a 2017 with TRD springs: What bars are you using?

I'm still on my stock springs at the moment with a Strano front bar and stock rear. Planning on upgrading to the TRD springs this off season (assuming classing stays the same), am wondering if I need to pick up the TRD bars as well. With the 2017 rear bar being a little thicker than the previous years, I'm tempted to stick with the bars I have now and see how I like it.

Right now I'm in the same boat as you. I'm running the whiteline 20mm up front on my 2017 86. The only other mod I have (besides the slipping crash bolts ) is a set of 17x7.5 rims.

I've actually been trying to figure out if the TRD springs will be a benefit or not over the stock springs. I've been trying to find any spring rate information because I know that they increased the front by 15% for the 2017 and I don't know if the TRD was stiffened by at least that much or not. I have them sitting in my garage and If I could find someone with a spring dyno I would 100% compare them.

Anyone know the rates?

No published rates, I haven't caught anyone with a dyno on them, best guess is that the TRD is just rebranded Eibach pro-kits, according to this F-3.6k, R-4.9k

They kind of look similar? I'm not home right now so I can't tell though for sure. I ended up giving ISC Suspension in NH a call to see how much a spring dyno on my stock springs vs the trd would be and they're going to have their dyno guy call me tomorrow morning.

I figure if it's close to their price of a shock dyno ($30/shock) then $120 to know all the facts is probably worth it.

I might not end up doing the test because the shop doesn't actually have a dyno just a spring tester, so it wouldn't work great for the progressive springs according to them.

That, and the fact that I have since confirmed that the TRD springs are in fact rebranded ebachi pro kit springs. So the TRD rates are


Pro-Kit (82105.140)
Front: lowers 1" | rate 148-200lbs/in
Rear: lowers 1" | rate 103-274lbs/in

And multiple sources I've seen have said that the spring rates for the 2017 were increased by 15% in the front and decreased by 10% in the rear.

I know the 2013 Scion frs rates are:

Car: Front OE Spring Rate:
Scion FR-S 23 N/mm (131 lbs/in)

Rear OE Spring Rate:
Scion FR-S 37 N/mm (211 lbs/in)

So using these numbers that would put the 2017 at 150 lbs/in in the front, and the rear at 190 lbs/in.

This means that the TRD springs stiffen up the front by about 25% and the rear by about 44%. Obviously they're different kind of suspensions front to back, so the % difference front to rear doesn't mean a whole lot. But in the end I'm taking away that the TRD springs are in fact an improvement from stock.

Does anyone know how to '17 PP Sachs shocks compare to Koni Yellows? Curious as to how much benefit dropping another ~$1k on the car will actually net me.

Currently running RPF1's w/ 245/40/17 Rival S 1.5, hawk street/race brake pads, spec-D tuning catback, and about to do OEM crash bolts with custom alignment.

I haven't heard of anyone doing the comparison yet. My understanding is most people who were dedicated to SCCA autocross went down to D-Street or switched to something else. Who else out there is rocking a 2017 right now in CS?

I'm running a '17, but I'm basically in DS prep. Wanted to wait to swap out to the TRD parts till next season to see if they change the classing around or not. I still have a bit of driver mod to do to be competitive anyway.

I keep seeing your sig about the axle back, is it available online anywhere? I really want an axle back for my 86 in CS.

And I know I'll be flamed for this... but I noticed a huge difference with the TRD springs, the car felt far less boaty and made it a blast through the slaloms. Most people will say that it's just for the bump stops and/or CG, but the springs rates are a lot better than stock.
