I've decided to stop caring so much about fuel economy and just drive the way I want to/the way traffic permits. So in heavy traffic I drive the same way everyone else does, without traffic I rev it up a bit and have me some good ol' rear wheel drive fun!

With that said, my current tank is at 29.1mpg without highway

This.

Honestly, I've never driven or chosen a car just for fuel economy. I always track it because it tells you a lot about your car, to me it's sort of like monitoring your blood pressure and cholesterol even if you don't have health issues.

So, I spend a lot of time driving the car the way I intended when I bought it. I enjoy every curvy road, every off/on ramp, every opportunity to downshift to pass, etc. With all that, I'm still averaging almost 32MPG as tracked here.

My dad always asks me about my mpg, and I'm like if I cared about that stuff I'd be driving a Prius Spec C lol

Exactly. Dadhawk you and I seem to have the same views on many FRZ topics :happy0180:

Plus...the look on someones face when you tell them your beautiful new sports car gets 30mpg is the most awesome thing ever

A gentleman in an SC430 asked me to have some redlight fun just now, brought my average down to 29.0 haha

6MT at around 2100 miles now. Average over the life of the car is 26.6. Last fill-up was 27.9. Hit a max of 29.8 on a 750 mile road trip (cruising at 75mph).

3450 miles, average 31.7 mpg (confirmed on fill-ups) Mostly blasting around new england back roads, and the ho-hum drive to work everyday.

How are you guys getting such good numbers with city driving? my MPG numbers seem to trend towards the low 20's.

I just drove in to work.
  • 2 seconds after turning on the car I reset the "AVG MPG" function. Let the revs settle and went on my way.
  • I use "Snow" mode and "D" mode in normal driving (auto).
  • I have my buzzer set at 2300 RPMs. I didn't hit it the whole trip.
  • The current route is 9.4 miles (usually 8.2, doing detour right now). Posted speed limit is mostly 30, a little stretch of 40, and a little 25, all of which I exceed by about 10%.
  • There are a total of 12 stop signs and one stop light on the trip. I do a rolling stop through a couple of the stop signs.
  • There are gentle hills, nothing too steep.
  • The ambient temperature was about 78 degrees F, no wind.
  • I did not run the AC.
  • I weigh 152 and did not have a passenger.
  • My car has about 770 miles on it (all stock).
After pulling in to my spot in the parking garage, I made note of the AVG MPG reading a second before turning off the car:

36.6
MPG.

I keep a spreadsheet of all my stats updated at each fill up (I like doing the charts and calcs myself), not sure how much I trust the Scion's computer. We'll see. I only got 28.7 MPG on my last tank but I've been driving a little more economically so hopefully I see 30s in Excel. I almost never drive on the highway (about 0.15% of the mileage has been highway so far -- 1.2 miles out of 780ish now), but I also don't have a lot of sitting in traffic or at long lights.

I think my Fuelly says most of it, but I get anywhere from 32-33mpg to 36-37mpg on the interstate depending on if I'm using the a/c and how fast I'm going. A majority of my driving is on rural highways or interstates, with occasional city driving and I'm averaging around 27mpg with my "normal" driving. I have more fill up than I have in my Fuelly but I didn't write down the mileage. I don't drive for gas mileage, unless I'm on a long trip and even then I set the cruise @ 5-10mph over the speed limit. BTW... 6MT as well.
