If you don't like it, then there is the option of the WRX STI RA. Can you afford this car? Go for it! |

Old engine, ugly paint and poor quality build as he said earlier.

I often wonder if the miata crowd complains about a lack of power as much as others do about the brz/frs/86

Yep! It all depends on the speed and revs really. If at the top end of the speed for a gear two down and already reving out then downshifting two gears can go bad fast but that is a pretty narrow range so it really shouldn't come up often.

Oh it's lack of power is fine since it is so light (you would think there was a 1,000 pound difference the way people talk).

Like I posted "From my knowledge" I'm sure that it's ok to do so just as you said there is no cut and dry rule like tcoat put it. I just for myself will roll thru each gear and not skip.

If downshift to slow down I row through each gear every single time. Habit from driving truck I think.

I don't like to skip gears going up and I never do, honestly it's just so much more fun shifting through each gear, up and down. However, if have to slow down, depending on the situation I'll downshift to each gear and let the engine do the braking and continue to downshift as needed. As opposed to rushing to a red light just to come to a complete stop and have to take off from 1 again. Other times the full stop is inevitable. Another thing I do is I'll leave the clutch depressed and sometimes I put the shift knob into each gear on the way down without letting go of the clutch (I've heard this is good to do for the transmission, I honestly do it because it's fun), sometimes I wait to select the appropriate gear for the speed I'm going when it's almost time to accelerate again and match the revs for a smooth transition. So I might find myself going from 5th to 3rd, but it isn't a sudden downshift, no jerking or awful noises (grinding, rattling, etc.) and I'm not forcing the shift knob into place. It feels right. Didn't mean to derail the thread! I was originally gonna comment that I absolutely love the wing they put on this thing and will heavily consider getting one on my car. Even if it isn't "practical" as this is my daily it looks amazing dammit! |

However not many I dare say no one says "TOO MUCH power" They miata community love the ND because of great power to weight ratio.

I actually learned Manual in a 1986 Toyota Hilux! so that's probably where I get the habit.

All the time, but they have super ridiculous cheap parts that interchange through some of the generations and they also had a factory turbo car....as well as multiple engine swap options and transmission options in a similar chassis. People often complained about why the original Miata didn't come with the turbo 1.6. Especially since it was so easy to do as that was an engine option at the time and the Miata motor literally had all the plug ins for the turbo...just blocked off. Almost like people asking for FA20DIT instead, except less of a hassle to package. |
