Been following this build and your youtube for a while. Excellent build. If I could pick your brain for a moment with this build being quite focused on track work, what made you go with JDL Turbo kit over say JRSC? I am in the same boat weighing between both options.

Usable torque and maximum efficiency, to put it simply.

The Rotrex is a good centrifugal SC when they don't have internal failure like I've seen quite a few do recently, but it has fundamental issues when applied to an FA20. First and most obvious is the parasitic drag on the motor because it is belt driven. It (the C30 specifically) also suffers from very high intake temperatures that the intercooler can seemingly only barely control. I've seen dyno data that backs this up. The C38 suffers less from that because it's a bigger unit that doesnt have to spin as fast to meet the boost target. It also doesn't make good, usable torque until it's spun up to near "valvetrain abuse" RPMs.

My choice in turbocharger and the kit that surrounds it has a few reasons behind it. Firstly, a properly sized turbo is just more efficient at delivering boost early and sustaining it throughout the rev range. IATs are typically lower post intercooler. I will have a fun street/track car that isn't boring to drive on the street like more centrifugal SC kits are because they don't make any usable low/midrange torque due to the linearity of their power delivery. I'll be able to keep the rev limit relatively low, as well, without sacrificing any top end power.

Lastly, I love the UEL rumble and didn't want to give that up, so JDL's V2 kit is a perfect match for my needs. I also just enjoy the noises a turbocharger makes in general.

Yep. Considering this all started at the end of February. Should've been back on the road almost a month ago, but Murphy's Law is real and present in everything I do to this car.

Very happy to take delivery of these new 17x9 +42 APEX ARC-8 track wheels made just for the 86 platform. Built strong via flow-forming. Lightweight at 17.8 lbs. Cheap at $259/wheel. Can't ask for more!

Ooh those are pretty popular amongst the E36/E46 crowd. I dig your wheel choice, clean, light, and relatively affordable. Keeping the Mach Vs?

I had APEX ARC-8's on my E36 - they are reliable, track-ready wheels that "look the business".
