I wasn't given a spare key

So I got an FR-S a couple of weeks ago and I was only given one key. The person who sold it to me said that there's no chip inside the remote so I can make a copy without any issues. The locksmith said that the car won't turn on with the copy, only unlock the door. Anyone have any ideas? I really need a spare just incase. Thanks for the help. I have a 2014 FR-S btw.

The sales guy either lied or is clueless since they are indeed a chipped key. There have benn several attempts at programming eBay keys but I am not sure any really worked. Oviously it is not some easy procedure or it would delete the purpose of even having a chip in the first place. You best bet is to have the dealer do another key but it ain't cheap.

I have three keys. Two digital and the one analog key. The dealer owes you two keys.

Used car signed for and delivered the dealer doesn't owe him anything. Three keys should have been agreed upon and included in the sales contract. No recourse now.

How much does it cost to get a key programmed at the dealer? Estimate.

$200 to $300. I would argue they should give a discount since wrong info was provided.

My local Ace Hardware does chipped keys, no idea on cost, though.

They can cut them but you still need the dealer to program them.

We bought a used Series 1 a while back. Found out those keys were even pricier ($500 with programming/cut) and won't take the regular FR-S keys. It's also my understanding that the car is programmed to the key. We did talk the sales guy into tossing in another FR-S key laying around that ended up being of no use to us. If you want it, PM me and I'll toss it in the mail.
