Smart. Hopefully by that time all the Hype would have died down a bit and you negotiate at invoice.

Scion remember? No haggling. Full retail price or pound sand...it's for YOUR convenience.

Subaru was against the Direct ignition idea, Toyota insisted, and now this is the result.

I believe they can actually go lower than MSRP, as long as it is advertised at that lower price (I might be wrong). Problem is, that won't be happening for a bit...

Do you have proof that this is the actual problem?

The idle and chirping issue would not be a big deal to me as long as nothing was being harmed and the motor was still putting out the advertised hp.

What I am concerned about are these random cam/valve issues that accompany a check engine light.

*For all we know, the idle issue could turn out to be a harmless quirk, the chirp nothing more than an annoyance, and the cam/valve a fairly rare issue present only in an early run of cars...here's to hoping

I am going to hold off on my purchase for a bit just to see how things progress over the next month or two...

Blown up for your viewing pleasure

Light activates anytime your TC and SC engages
From manual: If indicator does not turn off within a few seconds of starting engine, there may be a
malfunction. Have vehicle inspected by your Scion or Toyota dealer.

Which trend? The trend of vehicular hypochondriacs increasingly frequenting the forum?

Just as much to remind myself as to remind anyone else: This forum, while a success as far as I can see, is a tiny echo chamber filled with the most excited of the English-speaking 86 enthusiasts. Of, what, a couple thousand or more cars shipped, this forum's membership represents some unknown but probably very small fraction of owners. Of those on this forums experiencing a problem of some kind, they represent some other unknown fraction of total owners experiencing a problem of some kind. We don't yet know the severity of any of these problems nor do we know the frequency of occurrence. All we do know is that every day a new possible vehicular hypochondriac posts a new thread or a new video about some worrisome-to-them sound or action of their car, some of which could be an unknown-but-real issue, others of which have been immediately and obviously benign.

In short:

1. Report any concerns to your dealership.
2. Relax. Even, and especially, if you just did #1.

Well sure, it's probably overblown. But, as someone who recently purchased another 1st year car (Mazda cx5), I can tell you that the majority of the threads on those forums are about shaky mirrors and hood. Those issues don't make me worry so much.

Please, at least get your names straight. Direct INJECTION. I own a BRZ and find this types of posts stupid. BOTH company engineers ended up agreeing on everything. Second, no one even knows if the chirp is from the DI system. And finally #3, NOBODY even knows if the chirp is bad... This is all speculation.

1. whiteout fr-s' issue is an outlier. In my mind his engine failure is almost certainly a direct result of the techs tinkering with his car to fix the idle issue. NOT a result of the idle issue itself.
2. Other than him I don't recall a single person report anything happening other than a dip in idle while stopped. No one is stalling out, losing power, or having some other dramatic failure.
3. Not everyone is having this problem. Yes the car is new, but still at this point the number of people reporting this issue is small.
4. It will be fixed. Not only at the plant, but in everyone's car that already has them. Look at the list of service bulletins for any car out there. They fix every stupid thing that people might complain about.

Relax people, we all love this car but you gotta expect some things like this to happen on a brand new car. It's a completely new vehicle, top to bottom, there will be growing pains.
^^Thank you so much for having an open mind!! Those are my EXACT thoughts!
