Problem filling car with gas
Anybody encountered issues getting gas in their car? The problem started about a year ago but seemed to be related to the gas pump used. Some pumps worked without issue, others would not work unless I slowly filled the tank.
Fast forward about 9 months and the issue got much worse. No pump would work without stopping the pump several times during a fill-up. I am not using my twin as frequently now, due to moving to the country and purchasing a pickup. This means I am only filling up maybe once a month. The last two times I filled up, it was close to 30 minutes fighting with the pump just to get gas in the car. I have taken the car in for service and have been told that it is the Charcoal Canister that is the problem. I have less than 50K miles on my 2013 FR-S so this seems to be an odd diagnosis to me. What are everyone else's thoughts? |

It sounds like a problem with the gas tank venting, I've never had that problem in a vehicle, put I suppose too much pressure build-up could shut off the gas pump?
Just looked, lots of stuff on youtube about this problem... |

I have this problem at certain gas stations. It seems some gas nozzles with the spring around them will be just the right size to block the hole in the tank, and I think it triggers the pump to think the tank is full. At my local Costco, I have to make sure I don't put the nozzle all the way in. I back it about maybe a 1/4 in.

After the problem got worse, I pulled the nozzle out a little more and ended up with gas all over my shoes. It is a very fine line so learn from me and don't pull out the nozzle more than the 1/4 inch. |

And coincidentally enough improper pulling out can result in an issue after 9 months.

@5hairpins do you ever top off when you gas up? Has the nozzle ever failed to click off on its own and spilled out? It only takes one time. Even once can cause probs with the evap system and the canister. What you describe is the classic symptoms.
If you are not getting a CEL [yet] then you can either live with the PITA of filling up (it'll get worse) or just fix it. It tends to be expensive although I don't know how it is for this car. |

But i had this issue with one of my cars and the solution will get even more puns, i use to just put the tip in about an inch or two and half click the gas nozzle so its not on full blast but this requires your attention at the pump because you will need to hold the nuzzle. And let the puns begin |
