I have to agree here. OP, I occasionally drive my gf's 2017 manual wrx (with a short throw shifter) and find it much floppier/looser than that of my 2013 frs. So considering you feel that the brz is floppier than THAT, I'm inclined to think that something weird is going on with your particular car.

sorry, you have no idea what a sloppy shifter feels like until you've driven a E39 BMW 540 6-speed.

4-on-the-floor 1969 VW bus is what the O.P. described. Perhaps too much beer and he got in the wrong vehicle? My '13 FRS is the tightest, clearest manual I've ever driven, including 3-series BMW, Fiat Spiders, '76 MG, '92 Miata, '93 Celica, '72 B210, Dodge Omni (EWwwwww), Ford E150 (also 4 on floor), '82 VW Rabbit, '88 Sentra, a host of U-Haul manual moving trucks back in the day, and yes, '69 VW bus.

Yeah... get that puppy checked out at the dealership...

Straight six, three on the tree. About 14 inches of travel at the shift knob to go from first to second. If you hit the clutch at just the right revs the lever would just fall from second into third without even touching it. And these guys complain about "sloppy"?
Ahhhh the good old days.

Yep, try a 1937 Chevrolet pickup, like I had (3 speed floor shift). To go to 2nd gear, just aim anywhere towards from the speedometer to the glove box. 2nd to 3rd was anywhere down from your right knee to your GF crotch ........

Now, we're talken ..... the good ol days .........

There is no other picture of that car. Remember when we didn't take pictures of everything?

Edit: Actually I lied. There were several dozen pictures of that car in various stages of disassembly and then all rebuilt. Where the hell they are is a whole different matter.

Yep, film was expensive, developing was expensive and cameras were big and expensive. Unlike today, where most people are carrying a "camera" with them (and usually looking at it) and its loaded with enough space for a gad-zillion pictures..........

If yours were were color pictures ....... they are probably faded and have a yellowish reddish hue to them ......... being THAT old and all .........
