Agreed. I think they've focused too much on the oem wheels. They are meant to be slippery as we know and it makes sense to run ridicously low spring rates to tame them....

I will discuss this further with Ohlins on the track day as they've said they will be there!

Really? They were one of the first manufacturers that developed a coilover for these cars. Do you have any idea how races are won? It is a team work, not a one man show. If he can get support from Ohlins, then no one from here can give him a better suggestion. We don't know the internal changes of the new shocks. The only thing I heard lately from an Ohlins engineer is that they changed how the suspension works and that they are focusing now more on the shock instead of focusing on stiff springs.

Yeah really. They keep saying more than 6k is for drifting.

The TTx Ohlins were 13/16k , but they refuse to sell them.

It's a bullshit company.

They just don't want to spend time on the 86.

The very high springs rates was not one of the best decisions in the TTx setup, because they were using linear springs. The first year that the GT86 cars went in the VLN races they were not that fast and TMG changed the second year from Ohlins to Bilstein. There was a big improvement of lap times. Bilstein also uses high spring rates, BUT their Cup suspension is a different design with progressive springs.

If Ohlins didn't want to spend time on the 86, why did they create a new suspension?

A friend has this Bilstein with 14/18 linear .

And my car is the fastest 86 in France on 10/12 JRZ.

We will compare both this Sunday on track.

Bilstein CUP suspension has two types of springs. The ones you mentioned and another set that help to shift the car weight. If I can recall the second springs are 3kg. If you want more details I can check and tell you.

I have heard from Ohlins that they don't care about progressive springs as two of these are never exactly the same. Just an input.

With the help of the instructor I've managed to find more than 2 entire seconds! I sort of had an epiphany and my driving now is immensely smoother than it has been before! It was great fun today and the times I put down at the end would have given me a first place last year! If the weather keeps stable (some rain is forecasted for tomorrow) I'm definitely aiming for the podium!

Just stumbled on your thread and looks like your having fun .... im pondering the Ohlins kit next to replace my Tein Streetflex but these new Ohlins spring rates do seem odd though, have you had any issues bottoming out/hitting bumpstops on the road or track ?

Hey!

My front wheels hits the inside of the wheelarch during heavy cornering. They are a bit too soft. I've got some harder springs to test out but it will take some time until I can try them. Had an accident at this weeks race (heavy rain) and the car might not see any more track use this year. I've loaded it on a trailer and I'm on my way home. Hopefully tonight or tomorrow I have a better view of the damage. My neck is getting more and more sore and I'm really glad the 86 is such a safe car...

Hey, Sleepy, sorry to hear about your off. Please go get your neck checked out. Don't want to risk ignoring a cracked vertebra or the like. Helmets are heavy.

Best wishes, man. Keep us posted.
