Interesting.

I wonder how that would compare to just using plain water in the spray bottle ......

Probably the same as using no shampoo or suds to wash your car the regular way after hosing it down. Just dip that mitt in a bucket of plain water and wipe...

I use the ONR as well. I fill a bucket with water and the ONR mixed in. I soak my wash microfiber towels in the bucket. I use a spray bottle mixed with ONR and water to spray down the panel I'm washing. I then use the high pile side of my folded wet microfiber and wipe the panel down using a clean leading edge for every pass.

It seems to be working ok so far. Washing the lower half of the car this way still scares the crap out of me. Like others have said it's not meant to wash a filthy car.

Find a local self car wash. Just rinse car with water and then final rinse is usually filtered soft water that leaves no marks. Drive home allow car to dry, then your choice of wax, spray was, quick detailer, etc. Pick a good and you will have a good bead for weeks depending on how dirty your car gets. I use ONR as well sometimes, its good stuff, but my water sucks so self car wash is easier and its costs maybe 3 bucks.

There aren't any in my area. Closest one would be at least 20-30 miles away.

Just to be clear, my car never gets mud-caked dirty. After a normal week here there are usually lots of bug splats and a few bird bombs, and when it rains there is sediment residue all over the car.

That's what you'd think, right? But it's really no different from washing your car the regular way when there's dirt that can't be hosed off, but needs a mitt to remove/loosen it. When you're using a mitt to remove dirt, the dirt is sandwiched between the mitt and the paint. If you press too hard, you can still scrape the paint.

The key is to use the right product to soak into the dirt first, loosen it, and surround each particle with lubrication. Then, wipe it off gently without mashing the dirt into the paint. If you put some plain water in your hand and rub some dirt between your fingers, then do the same with the waterless wash, it feels different. The waterless wash feel slippery; and the dirt doesn't feel as gritty when rubbed between the fingers. Four years of using this product has made me a believer.

ONR is going to be your friend in that situation. What I would advise is to purchase the following:

(2) 5 gallon wash buckets with grit guards in both. Both with distilled water with ONR in each to be safe one to rinse, one to wash.

Sprayer to mix up so ONR for prespray wash, soak the car with that solution before cleaning.

ONR.

Chenille microfiber wash mitt or the Big Red Spounge from Optimum Polymer Technologies.

2 quality microfiber drying towels.

Some Optimum Car wax as a drying aid, helps protect from UV damage.

With these items you can easily maintain your car, with the only other purchase being some 5 gallon distilled water jugs.

If my cars not too dirty; doesn't have any mud, serious dirt, or crazy stuff on it and its only been a week or two since the last good wash. I will use a Meguiars wash and wax anywhere and a plush microfiber towel.

I was also going to suggest getting a water softener that you can attach to your garden hose at home. You can find them at Walmart or Lowes, not to bad of a price.

Cant comment on how it works cause I have never used it, but products that claim to take off things (dirt) and apply things (wax) at the same time usually compromise both. Not saying that its not good enough but I think over time dirt can build up.
