GT vs TRD Aero Kit??

Hey guys, I've been struggling to chose between the two so thought I'd open it up for discussion

The more I look at the GT Aero Kit, the more I'm starting to like the rear spoiler. At first I thought it looked ridiculous, but now I think I could actually do it! The front and the sides are quite similar to the TRD. The GT rear bumper would mean I could stick with the factory exhaust for now too.

The biggest factor I'm considering is the pricing, with the GT Kit at NZ$1,600 vs TRD Kit at NZ$3,419.

The alternative I thought of was getting the GT Aero Kit but swapping the rear spoiler for the TRD one, which would come to $2,284.

Thoughts???

That is the GTS Aero kit on the right... no GT as topic states.

They do share similarities, i would go with which one is cheaper and if you like the rear wing or not lolz.

EDIT:Opps you're from NZ and they are called something different my bad.

Firefly, I did originally order the NZ aero kit as I mentioned on another thread.

I agree, good value for the skirts etc but being in my 40s I decided I'd need to swap the rear wing (too boy racer for me) and put either the TRD boot lip or standard NZ GT86 spoiler on. I was worried holes etc for fastening the wing would have meant a new boot as well or repairs/paint. I also think the high wing spoils the shape of the car.

Decided to cancel the aero kit and go standard GT86 and look at the TRD options.

Also, seems the aero kit (and maybe TRD) will only have around 95mm clearance at the front. This may be too low for my driveway. I saw a new RX8 parked yesterday and it looked low at the front so I measured it and it was about 120mm - the same clearance as the GT86 without aero kit.

DriftEightSix - stupid how we are practically the same market and we have different model names. For those that don't know the 86 is the base model here while the GT86 is the top model and then we have a 86 TRD that is the base model with TRD options added (although as it is an upgraded 86 it misses some of the goodies from the GT86!).

Thanks @nzer, the boyracer stereotype is definately what I'm trying to avoid too (being 30 now and well past that stage in life :P)

What's the NZ GT86 spoiler you speak of?

And yeah ground clearance is something I should be thinking of, especially here in Christchurch with all the constant road repairs going on post-quake. Luckily my drive and most places I visit are quite flat, so shouldn't have issues with clearance there.

I'm talking about the standard lower spoiler that seems to be standard on some of the overseas models. I assume it will be available as an option here.

Yeah thats the spoiler I want - can any dealers confirm if they have heard anything about its availability through Toyota in oz, rather than having to go through Subaru.

Although definitely on a GT86 so hoping it might be an option. Do like the TRD one as well though.

Nice - might be the best way to avoid buyers remorse!

I can't be sure, but it looks like they'd have different mounting points, so removing the wing would leave holes and need cosmetic fixing.

My other thought is with a full TRD spoiler kit, how the standard exhaust would look?

I've asked Nick at Toyota NS (TRD) and they won't know if the TRD rear bumper will work with the standard exhaust until vehicle and kit arrives for them. Subject to ground clearance that'd be my choice too.

Or the aero kit and change to the TRD spoiler and hope the fixing positions are the same. Clearance an issue for me though as mentioned.

Yes the aero has 2 holes either side where as the TRD only has 1... But grommets are available so as not to get water in boot and can only been seen when right next to the car.... I just hope the holes line up and i wont end up with 3 holes either side of my boot lid..... Could always just wait until a front end damaged 86 shows up and grab another boot to mount the TRD one on....

The BRZ one is hideous IMO..... But a lot of people hate the Aero and thats why i like i so each to there own.. Bosozoku style bitch...
