Finally the end of the week, now my weekend is full of apartment and house hunting sigh, ya know i dunno if car buying or house buying is worst in the bad part obviously. They just don't make houses where every door opens to the garage

Well, first off, I suggest you get a "preapproval letter" from a lender. That will tell you what you are qualified to buy. Then, estimate the principle, interest, taxes and insurance on a house that you would qualify for, then factor in a down payment.

Now, you should be able to figure out whether you want (are able to) rent or buy.

If you decide to buy, go to a reputable real estate office in the geographic area you are interested in and ask to meet with the managing broker.

Ask the managing broker to assign an experienced real estate agent to you.

Sit down with the assigned agent, show him/her your pre approval letter and explain in detail what the type of house you are looking for and your timing.

The agent will be able to show you properties in your desired location and in your price range.

Pick one, make an off, counter if necessary ....... if your offer/counter is accepted ....... allow the real estate agent to make the rest happen. Oh, yes, ALWAYS have a home inspection!

See how easy that can be.......

Can I tag along? I don't do festivals but if you insert the words "craft beer", I'm down for whatever.

Speaking of which, I have to slow down on the beer drinking. Getting pretty well defined all over.. except the gut. Beer is too good.. and food too!

It always amazes me that you've lived a hundred or so different lives. I'm envious of those who know you personally. Would love to sit around with you for a day and listen to you ramble on

That sucks cuz I always find myself walking in and out of the garage from the 1st floor of my house, like sometimes I just decide to walk over and sit inside my BRZ for no reason.

And if you live in a condo with underground parking, the car can get real dusty if they don't wash the place a few times a year.

I hope your neck of the woods don't have out of control rent and housing prices like here in the GTA.

Apparently the market is being fixed by the liberals. I'm pretty convinced I'll end up living around the Sarnia area. Just need to wait for my parents to sell their place, and loan me a good chunk of change so that I can get a decent place there. Not like I'll need much, but 50k from them will come at a way lower interest rate than the bank.

A coworker of mine just bought a 600 sq ft condo in North York for 400k I had to hold back the laughter. Dunno why he wouldn't take that money and buy a much nicer place that isn't a condo and then just deal with a small commute.

There is no such thing as a small commute in NYC. Not during rush hour anyway.

I thought he was talking about a 600 sq ft condo in "New" York the first time I read it, too. The price Cole mentioned would, unfortunately, seem to be common in that place. I had no idea there were other places w/ similarly inflated housing costs. Where is North York? Never mind.. I'll look it up. edit - former municipality of Toronto. Got it. I was in Toronto once, about 30 years ago, and was amazed at how nice a city could be. Is it still?

I live w/in 20 minutes of Syracuse, NY, which is about as big a city as I can enjoy. 20 minutes outside of town, I have one neighbor, woods across the street, a small river in my backyard, 2 acres, and a 3500 sq ft house that I paid $130K for in 2000. I've always felt fortunate and blessed... after reading that post, doubly so. I grew up w/in shouting distance of NYC, and couldn't wait to head north, away from all the congestion and human intensity.

No one drives in NYC. There's too much traffic.

North York is not NYC. I'm talking about Toronto. Our office is in a small suburb north of the city.
