If you go mustang get the track pack, or whatever they're calling it with the current model . I had a 14 track pack with Ford racing suspension . It handled well (not twins well but still) and held it's own at autcross events.

The power was intoxicating and the exhaust note was glorious . Insurance was stupid high and the interior was cheaper than Subaru's play school crap (the new models have addressed this issue. )

The car rewards good drivers and pushes bad ones. So if you don't act like a tool before you learn the limits of your car you won't take out any crowds .


Another vehicle to consider ( and the one I'd have if I still lived in Texas ) would be a Chevy SS . Sleeper as hell , nice interior and it's a 4 door so it's usable . Also not many tools own them because they're not flashy so insurance isn't as bad

Yes, which lends me to say the Hemi Challenger doughs.


The EPA and some professional reviewers give wildly disparaging fuel economy numbers.


The protection agency claims 19mpg on mid-grade fuel. It could be an achievement if someone could drive with mandatory short-shifting and feathering the throttle, to see if 20mpg is obtainable.


Interestingly, the manual version uses the Tremec TR-6060 unit. One of the two(and only) recommended transmissions used in a FR-S/BRZ LS swap.

NVH and ride comfort too. Despite the ancient architecture, the LX platform cars with the dual mode exhaust are substantially more quiet than the twins at highway speeds. They're also less twitchy over road imperfections.

Also, the platform and engine on the V8 models, while antiquated, are extremely reliable. The transmission reliability issue of the past was solved when they switched to ZF units for automatics across the line-up.

I will say, it's definitely a very different car. I took out its platform mate, the Charger 392, for a test drive and while it corners well, there's no hiding the weight. It's also deceptively under tired (245s or 275s depending on trim) for an engine that produces that much torque.

Having said that, I wouldn't say it's much more practical than the BRZ. You do get more rear passenger room, but the trunk is actually more narrow and shorter than the BRZ. I could fit a 7 foot Christmas tree on a diagonal with the seats folded down in the BRZ. You can't do that in the ATS because the chassis is setup to accept RWD and AWD, which causes intrusions in the trunk. Also, the subwoofer is mounted in the top of the trunk and that cuts into the opening size.

I can't for the life of me understand why the OP wants to have a car in NYC. I had very limited use for one when I lived there. Do you only spend time in the outer boroughs? Owning a car in the city is just an unnecessary expense for most people, though I realize people have different situations.

I wouldn't worry about gasoline prices. The only way they're going to have any sort of notable increase in the coming years is if we go to war with Iran. Otherwise $2-3/gallon gasoline is here to say for well over 5 years. For which you can thank the American energy industry.

Altogether though, I've always felt that a WRX is the best vehicle for an NYC environment. AWD for inclement weather as well as sure footed traction for jumping out into traffic from a standstill. And a fairly compliant suspension to soak up all the ridiculous potholes and other piss poor road conditions.

That might have been an option, if it was readily available in manual. But all I've found was either auto, or a 2017 model which is over my budget. I would love to see some more of those Muscle Sedans. Especially those Aussie ones: the HSV's, the FPV's.

I want a manual. When I become a boring middle-aged human being, I'll consider an auto.

If I do get a Challenger, wider tires is one of the first things I'll get for it. Along with those old-school style rims.

What a ridiculous thing to say! I need a car to get to and from work! And to generally drive to places in comfort. It takes me about 20-40 minutes to get to and from work, depending on traffic; VS 2-3 hours taking public transportation.

I do agree on the potholes thing though. The roads are shit in NYC! I bought some rims and tires for my BRZ (Enkei TS10's wrapped in Continental Extreme Contact tires), hit a pretty big pothole at night while it was raining because I couldn't see it well enough. Put 2 dents into both right side rims. Not major, but noticeable up close.

The fiat-Chrysler Group (and specifically dodge) have the WORST reliability ratings of any brand in the US right now. If you are thinking this is the same car or the same company as the dodge your Dad had- you are wrong. You will be trading in reliability and customer service for a car that has neither. You will live to regret buying that car and it will suck every last dollar from your wallet.

Don't trust the reviews you read- most are paid for. Look deeper for the info on this car. Also consider the company and customer service you are buying with the car. There are much better muscle car options out there,

Like I said before, I wouldn't mind a 4-door V8 sedan, with a manual, but I'm very skeptical about buying an older model car from a company that doesn't exist any more. Just did a search, and all of them were over 80k miles.

On another note; there is another option. My mom wants to get rid of her old ass 2002 Nissan Maxima (with a lot of pressure from me) and get a small to mid-size SUV. She's set on either Toyota Rav-4, Nissan Pathfinder, or a Subaru Crosstrek. So if she buys something like that, I could use it for any heavy lifting. Especially since she rarely drives as is. While I can get my motorcycle licence (already got my permit) and buy a Ninja 650 for some excitement.
