I run with MPSS's, I'm new but I'm still a bit off from the stock guys running RE71's. They feel good enough on the track and on the street but they're not fast in the dry.
In the wet it's a different story MPSS's are awesome in the wet I go from 1-2 seconds slower to 3-4 faster than guys running RE71's. |

I ran MPSS for two seasons for dd/autox and occasional hpde. They were terrific DD, "okay" autoX and not great for hpde.
I personally think the compromise when autoX and hpde makes these not a great choice. I run federal 595 rs-rr's now and I would be LUCKY to be within a second of my autoX times with the PSS tires. It's easily closer to two seconds or more perhaps. That said, I do LOVE PSS for road use. They're the perfect blend of grip, long-ish life, quiet comfort and still go sideways when you want to. I just wish i had it in the budget to have 3 sets of wheels/tires instead of just two (something 200tw for autoX and track, a DD with PSS, and the obligatory winter setup). |

Street - The ExtremeContact Sport is significantly quieter and more comfortable than the RE11As. Bonus is the tire comes with a 30,000 mile warranty that most summer tires don't have except the Mi PSS. Steering feedback is also improved over the DWs that I had on my previous 350Z. Track - For reference, I just completed a SCCA Track Night at Carolina Motorsports Park that I ran around the same time last year on the Bridgestones. Surprisingly, the ExtremeContact Sport was a solid 1-1.5 seconds a lap faster than the RE11As. Great result. Admittedly, I'm sure the newer RE71Rs would be faster than the Contis in autocross and track days, but for everyday driving and a dual purpose tire, I think the Contis are a great option. Highly recommended from my side. |

I thought the Falken Azenis RT615k+ were fantastic. Ran them for two hot days at Dominion in HPDE 2 and they never gave out on me. I certainly made some mistakes / overdrove them in a few turns and they forgave. Audible, very predictable, high grip, good turn in. No idea on wear or heat cycling effects since they were brand new.
Car is stock power and stock suspension. Tires are 225/45/17 mounted on 17x8s. I ran with the traction controls off (holding the trac off button for 5 secs) but not the full pedal dance. Im going to do my second event in a month's time at the end of May at Pitt Race and can comment on tire wear after that.

^ great observations. I also think they are much more livable than the AD08R which I had on my Supra and man the ride was rough and noisy with those (but the grip was fantastic when hot). I ran the Falkens at 36 psi too.

Am I the only one here that wishes tire makers just be like car makers, and stick to one model name for one type of tire?
The Contiprosportcontactpatch super ZZ Type II name is a bit hard to follow after a few revisions... Quote:

Wow, that is odd since the AD08R's are pretty much the quietest summer "ultra performance tires" based on Tire Rack reviews and my experience. For me, it is the ultimate all around summer street/track tire.

I would have bought the AD08Rs instead of the Falkens this go-round if money had not been an object, but I was able to get an oil cooler given the discount.

The Azeni+ are a touch slower, they howl when they let go and comprable to everything else out there in the 200 (exception being Rival S and RE71R). Granted the design is old but they changed the new compound. I went for it for the price and consulting with few folks who ran it on in AER (Enduro). Quote:
RE71R still king of the 200 wear tires (aka cheater tires in the racing community) rest of the tires, I get/suggest to students based on pricing/sizing and availability. Lutfy |

I agree the RE 71's are the absolute best lap time wise, but all things considered the 615K+ are a better choice for me. (Hate the 71 noise on the freeway)

Bridgestone stepped it up, the RE71R's last much longer than previous autox centered tires from what I can glean (people junking 50 run tires while the 'stones are good past 100), oh no the tread wears worse than the compound heat cycles and everyone has a conniption. Blah, I've seen it before and you'll all see it again if you stick around in the competitive world long enough. Mfgr X comes in with something badass and everyone who didn't hop on the train early gets bitter until competition levels out. Repeat. |
