Meanwhile, after almost 2 years of ownership, an object (container of motor oil) finally hit the trunk lock. Spent about 5 minutes pressing the trunk button in the cabin and on key until I realized what happened -_-

........ you knew that was coming.

Now, secure the stuff in your trunk......

You got off lucky, it could have been a gallon of milk and it busted open in your trunk ...... then your whole car would smell like baby puke ....... forever......

Had to search that. Found the threads and the pictures, ran out to check my car to make sure.
I have no such button in my GT86
I guess Toyota decided that we Europeans have no need to lock our trunk from the inside. They were right

You can also fold your back seat down without having to climb half way into the trunk.

You mean to tell me the seat release mechanism is in the trunk on your cars?
That may actually be preferable. I have to climb into my back seat, press two buttons on either side of the seat, pull the seat forward and then get out of the car without pushing the seat back into it's latched position.
I have managed to do this without spinal injury on several occasions, but tantrums have been thrown.

We have straps on the back side of the back seats. not a huge pain, but I can see how father time would find it troublesome.

I just wish we had a 50/50 or 40/60 fold down.
I would never have to take my daughter's car seat out and it would be considered 100% functional family vehicle. More room than a Juke.

I would be fine with them in the trunk if they didn't inevitably get folded up between the seat and the sides. What should be a simple operation then turns into a game of Twister.

I haven't done it yet, but I have considered running a loop between them with an attached separate single strap long enough to reach more easily from inside the trunk. Should solve both problems.

Apparently someone has declared 2017 Hawk hunting season. Just a couple months after dealing with the 86 being banged into, now my youngest son gets rear ended over the weekend by someone following too close in the rain on an off ramp. Fortunately no one was hurt, and the damage to her car was much worse than my son's but I suspect his '98 Volvo will be totaled.

The bumper cover came completely off and has a couple of golf ball size holes in it plus multiple scratches. In addition the bumper bar and Styrofoam filler is all bent and will need to be replaced. I suspect the trunk floor is also buckled. A large piece of trim that goes underneath the left taillight is also MIA. All this on a car (although in pristine condition for a 140,000 mile car) is worth at most $3,000 and that's a sucker price.

Sigh. Official adjuster estimate is this afternoon, but I suspect we'll be car shopping this weekend. Good thing he learned to drive in Big Bertha (our Z71 Suburban) since he's driving that right now.
