Highschool girl's car. I also made reference to the cheer squad, and guys can be cheer leaders too. Now look who's being disparaging!

Same ol' spin, different day. It's a Yota no matter which way you slice it. If Scion gets scrapped that means the Scion guys get something a little more collectible than a Yota one day, provided they kill Scion sooner than later. Either way I don't care. It does seem Scion is being repositioned as a brand, but in what way remains to be seen.

I don't care what they call it, what matters is who built it.

Car and Driver editorial on Toyota/Scion

If this has already been posted, my apologies, I searched. Feel free to flame and delete. I was reading my August, 2012 Car and Driver that came in the mail today. I was initially disappointed there isn't more FR-S/BRZ content. However, when I got to Aaron Robinson's column, I was drawn in. He's clearly got his finger on the pulse of this issue, and definitely understands what the 86 is all about. I won't spoil the article for you... please read!

Wow, bad day for Mr. Robinson or just a "hater".

Wow, you think he's hating? I am getting something completely different out of it. To me, it seems like he really appreciates the 86, and just wishes it was a Toyota like it is in the rest of the world. I think the comments about Scion brand identity and cohesiveness are spot on. I ultimately got the BRZ because of features (HID, heated seats - cant do without either), but I would have definitely taken a Toyota Celica or GT-86 into serious consideration.

In this hypothetical situation where an 86 is available with the BRZ features would have made you "seriously consider" an 86? What does that gain the manufacturers? You still bought a vehicle that occupies a spot in the line in the plant that builds these. You had an adequate choice for your wants in the Subaru because you care more about features that absolute price. An upper trim FR-S doesn't bring anything new to the table. A base trim FR-S brings a cost leader to the vehicle. Those of us that want this as a weekend toy don't care about HIDs or heated seats.

For those of you that "don't care" and are just happy the car was released, I would say that it should matter to you. Simply from a resale value perspective, and from having in interest in long term viability of these models. What if Scion does get killed off? Yeah, you're still getting it serviced as a Toyota, but what happened to Oldsmobile values even though they can be serviced at other GM dealers?

The twins are in more demand than FHI can shake a stick at, but in 2, 4, or 10 years would it matter if this was a Toyota Celica vs two "nameless" models from Subaru and Scion? Maybe, maybe not. In 1989 Porsche replaced the 911 with another model, the 964. They called it a 911 for marketing reasons, to continue with a product's identity even though the product had changed. I am "just happy" to be driving my 86, but also hope for the general success of these models long term, as it will bring evolution and subsequent models instead of stagnation and cancellation.

I know this was hashed out on the forums a long time ago, and maybe you feel the issue is a dead horse, but this was a well written article dedicated to the FR-S in a mainstream magazine, so I was just trying to share. I don't think that Dadhawk was getting quite as beat up as me in the other thread, but, whatever...

Oh, and I have had plenty of occasions to use HIDs and heated seats on the way to the track. And, let's face it, these aren't race cars, they're street cars that are fun on the track. So telling me you don't care about HIDs and heated seats is as valid as me telling you I don't care about a passenger seat, back seats, doors, a trunk, a radio, heat, A/C... yawn...
