how to remove e brake button?

So I'm trying to swap out me e brake button. But I have no clue how to get it off. All the videos I've seen say to just twist it and it should come off. I've tried vice grips and turning it it in the direction of the passengers side seat but it just keeps spinning and spinning. It doesn't even feel like it's getting loose. Not loose enough to turn with my hand. Has anyone swapped out there ebrake button? Please help this is killing me lol.

The button just keeps spinning? My OEM button was on there pretty tight, had to clamp down hard with vice grips.

Yeah like it keeps spinning as if it's not even getting loose. When I first spun with the vice grips I heard a snap or click noise and I thought I got it. But I guess not? Which way do u turn it to get it off?

Oh well in that case you might have broken the rod that the button screws onto, you'll have to pull your center console unless someone else knows something I don't?

You've lost function of the ebrake now right? Might have snapped the cable?

Yeah I f**ked mine up taking it off. I'm not sure then, it should spin off. Video? I'm not sure what the guts look like of the ebrake handle. I would assume the rod that the button threads onto goes down to a lever of some sort that pulls and releases the cable. Perhaps the rod broke free of however it is fasten to the bracket or hinge, allowing it to still function but letting the rod spin in place. Try pulling up, or out, on the button while unscrewing it.

have you tried removing the leather hand brake itself? I found I was better able to get a better grip on my e brake knob with tools. For me it took like 10 double-handed rotations with a set of pliers which destroyed my stock knob but I got that sucker off.

I will try that today. It just bothers me because I see so many people take off the button without having to take off the hand brake cover. Is it really possible that the rod that the button is threaded on snapped and is just spinning every time I try to twist off the button?

If the rod snapped, you wouldn't have a functioning ebrake or at the most it will be intermittent. Also you will be able to just take the button out without screwing it and it will have a bit of the rod connected to it. There is a spring in there right under the button that provides the tension to keep the button up. The rod/button is very fine threaded and it takes a while for it to come off.

Like said you can take off the grip and it makes it all little easier and then you can kind of see whats going on in the ebrake. Its held on with a little bit of glue so just turn it side to side while pulling up and it will come off. I did it this way. Just make sure you are ready to stop once it comes off, if you go to crazy you will punch your head unit or something when it pops off.

if I take off the rubber grip part and ruin the glue that holds it, will it still look and feel the same when I slide it back on? or will it be all loose?

You wont really "ruin" the glue that holds it. It will still look and feel the same and it will not be loose after you put it back on. If you leave the car in the sun for little while that will warm up the glue and make it easier to take off. Its not a one time use glue, it's more of a rubber/silicone type of adhesive.
