You've got that right. When I lived in Texas, it was sports cars galore year-round. Here in Iowa, they're out and about only maybe a few months out of the year... Buy some friggin' winter tires for your sports cars, people! They can totally be driven in snow. Ugh... anyway...

Old 60-70's muscle cars are not gas efficient or reliable enough to be everyday drivers. Has nothing to do with the weather. I had a friend who drove a 72 chevelle around. 11 mpg.

Oh I know that for sure. I was just making a comment related to the one about how all cars can be DDs in Florida. You see almost NO sporty cars on the road here in the Upper Midwest for much of the year, since winter is so long and a lot of folks won't dare drive their RWD sports cars out in the snow.

From 2001 to 2004 I daily drove a 58 Ford Custom 300 two dor sedan. In Canada. All year round. I don't buy that you can't do it in Florida if you really wanted too. Lay off the pedal and drive like a normal person and they can be very good on gas. As far as reliability goes my 58 had 480,000+ miles on it and was on the original engine and drive train with only 2 (recorded) clutch changes. Let's see how that track record stands up to most new cars.

Whats the point of driving a muscle car when you have to lay off the pedal? You would have to really lay off the pedal to get into the 15 range.

You don't have to use the muscle all the bloody time. They were cars just cars and we used them as such all the time.


See the 3 carbs on the 440 engine below? Normal driving used one. A simple push on the pedal opened up the other two. On one I got great mileage. On all three it sucked more gas than you can imagine. You want to guess how often I got to kick it down to all 3 on the street?

My original point was that in order to beat a v6 Camaro you would probably need a supercharger and supporting mods. The amount of money spent on the car would probably be just as much as a Camaro SS and you would still be slower.

How much satisfaction would you really get in beating a v6 when you have more money invested to your car than theirs?

That is the rational way of thinking of it completely. I agree %100 it will never be worth what you put into it. The camaro is what 26k? What would you pay for it to handle like the FRS?

The new camaro 1LE with a V6 is only 35k and will out handle the frs stock for stock.
