Was probably around 75 or so that they started to slowly swap rolls. In London it started with the Fanshawe College FM station playing whole albums (usually random, obscure, hippy, crap) with some dude that was obviously stoned out of his gourd babbling incoherently every once in a while. On the plus side they did play the Dr. Demento show every Sunday night.
Didn't get real commercial FM stations like we know now until about 1978-80. Hell, the transition from AM to FM was a big enough deal that they made movies and TV shows about the stations (FM, On The Air, WKRP).

That entire blurb still doesn't sum up how I feel when I hear Christie Blatchford's voice on my morning commute. She lights up my morning.

Hmm, so I can't be a fan of a journalist who happens to be female without having an attraction to her? Once upon a time, my mom bought me a book written by Miss Blatchford. In which she wrote about 15 different days she spent in Afghanistan with Canadian soldiers. The fact that she got so many different things right with her book, and actually connected to the guys emotionally struck a chord with me. It showed me that not all journalists want to paint a toxic narrative of the Forces now, and I became a big fan of her.

Don Cherry said it best, about that book. "... it is worthy of our brave young men and women. It is a tough book written by a tough broad who tells it like it is"

I didn't even know such a thing was attempted. Sounds like it was more of a pain in the ass than it was worth. Then FM killed it completely anyway.
