'17 BRZ burning smell

Hey guys!

Just yesterday my 2017 BRZ started producing a fairly strong burning smell after it's been running for a short time and it's happened every drive since. You can notice it a little inside the car, but it's very strong after parking, once you step out of the car. It's definitely coming from somewhere in the engine bay as it's very noticeable when you pop the hood.

It's a manual transmission, completely stock. Just under 7900 miles on it. Had the oil changed at 6k by the dealership.

In addition to the smell, it seems like the fuel pump also started chirping. I don't expect these issues to be related, but it is a little coincidental.

I'm gonna try to take it to the dealership tomorrow since it's all still under warranty, but I was wondering if anyone has any ideas what it could be or any suggestions on what I can check for? The oil level seems pretty normal, coolant is full, but I don't know a ton about cars and don't really know what else to check, so any suggestions are welcome.

Is it your first manual transmission car? Are you slipping the clutch in any gear other than 1st? How long are you slipping it for?
My car had a burning smell for 2-3 months, but it wasn't strong and it was mostly new clutch smell mixed with new car scent.

It is, but I've already familiarized myself with the smell of clutch and I'm pretty sure this isn't clutch. I had a burning smell for the first couple of months too, but I've had this thing since August 28th and haven't had this smell before. Pretty sure this isn't the clutch. It smells more like burning plastic or something than clutch/brakes.

That being said, I can turn the car on and let it run tomorrow morning for a few minutes without driving it and see if I notice it.

That was my first thought.
Between the fuel pump chirping and this burning smell, it seems possible, though not necessarily likely.

Solved the mysterious burning smell...
Turns out I ran over a plastic bag (One of those clear, thick ones. The type shit comes packaged in, not the grocery store kind) and it caught on the underneath of the car, dead center, and it's melted on. I yanked some of it off (what I could reach), but I'd have to lift the car to scrape the rest of it off, or just wait until it all melts off

Was really hoping they fixed it in the 17's
Plus, almost 8000 miles without them.

I'm a little sad. 😔

Lol yeah bro, they're the type to come and go. Other than a few annoyances like the back window break light vibrations after installing the Invidia and crickets it's a great car to drive!

Oh don't worry it could still happen. We all know that many just read the first post and then reply without seeing if it was resolve already.

Probably the same situation for about 99% of the weird burning smell issues with cars.

It's fortunate that you found it, and more fortunate that it didn't catch somewhere that could ignite and burn up the rest of your car. Did it get stuck on the skid plate or farther back where the exhaust plumbing and drive shaft are?
