The articule you linked applies to cars with really crappy systems that can indeed be improved greatly. These cars do not have an issue with the stock system. Grab a quality, high flow, drop-in filter and you are good to go.

What @Tcoat said. Find the prettiest air filter from your favourite company and get it.
Edit: This question has probably also been asked about a thousand times. |

The 17s have a revised intake as it is. Save your money.

Which one would be your recommendation? It will improve my car somehow or is trash money for nothing really?

There are several choices. I have the TRD drop in and am a big fan even though it is a bit more costly than the rest. There is really not a huge performance boost to be had since they did so well with the stock system. It does make a cool sound though! They mostly sell it because it is prettier than stock. The stock 2017 system has pretty much all the same performance as the pre 2017 TRD so there is really no advantage beyond bling value.

Since I don't care for performance as much as I used to, I got a K&N short ram because it sounds really good; heat soak never sounded so deep and mean.

You do know that the US Domestic TRD system is actually a K&N made system, don't you? (It's right there on the parts bill of materials- https://www.toyotapartsdeal.com/inst...tr03-18130.pdf.)
There is no "upgrade air intake" in the Japan TRD catalog. |

People get so weird on here about intakes. They have no problem telling you to spend $80 on a new filter, but $200-300 for an intake? You must be some kind of incompetent retard that likes lighting money on fire. Compared to some of the other "worthless" mods people do, it is actually on the cheap side. And, depending on the one you get, it may clean up the engine bay.
I believe the Grimmspeed is/was considered the "best". There was a big development thread going on here for a while. If you have $330 burning a hole in your pocket go for this. If not, I would go for something like the Perrin Inlet Hose or Mishimoto Induction Hose paired with a drop in filter from Perrin or K&N. Should run about $150-ish. |

I had the Perrin intake and inlet tube on my FRS. Sounds nice and cleans up the engine bay. But, you have to remove the bumper to install it and doubtful it actually makes any extra power.
I had the Grimmspeed intake on my 2017 BRZ. Again, sounds nice, doesn't change engine bay much except removes sound tube. Don't have to remove the bumper but again power gains are not noticeable. Current state: I just removed the Grimmspeed intake and put the stock airbox back in, with a Perrin inlet tube and drop-in filter. Works great, inexpensive, and so far this is my favorite combo (stock box, drop-in filter, Perrin inlet tube).
