Subwoofer Help
Hello!
Im currently trying to install a Kicker Subwoofer into my Toyota 86 at the moment. My Sub is: kicker 40cwr124 4ohm Sub (In Sealed Box) Even though the Kicker is a 4ohm sub it has a switch that makes it ether 2 or 8? Like This: https://images.sonicelectronix.com/i...n/40cwr124.jpg My question is can the sub run at 4ohms (since it is a 4ohm sub)? Or will I have to match it to 2ohms power when matching for an amplifier, since the switch states 2ohms? Thanks Guys! |

It has dual 4 ohm voice coils. If the coils are wired in series it presents an 8 ohm load to the amp. If they're wired in parallel it presents a 2 ohm load. The button just stupid-proofs the wiring. You have to choose one or the other; you can't wire just one 4 ohm coil. Fortunately, 2 ohm stable amps are plentiful.
