Leaky axle/diff seal?

So while swapping out my diff fluid, i spotted some oil residue on my rear passenger side axle. anyone know if this is normal? if not, does warranty cover it? thanks guys!

If you still have your powertrain warranty coverage, I reckon it would be covered.

However, with that small bit of oil/grease I wouldn't worry about it.

But, you may wish to keep an eye on it.

Did you push your axles all the way back in?

haha I know... but this car has a tendency to have axles pop out if it's lowered or if the rear suspension is compressed too much.

Just an observation since it may happen.

haha I only mentioned it because this exact situation happened to me.

Had some rear arms tested and then the axles popped out, leaked half my diff oil out onto the rear end of my car.

If you still have a warranty, get it looked at. An afternoon at the dealer could save $1500 worth of ring and pinion or LSD repairs. At the very least, they will top you off on diff fluid and give you some piece of mind.

Except OP is lowered, and this will be one of those situations where they won't even bother if the car is lowered enough to cause axle seal issues.

The "lowered enough" part is up for interpretation, obviously.

Lowered on dealer installed springs would still be under warranty. Or OP could swap back his OEM suspension (that'd be his call). It is up for interpretation, but in my book it's better to be safe than very sorry. Surely someone telling him to not have the leak checked out is being a tad reckless with someone else's car & money.

Well, OP is lowered on KW V3 and I have a feeling the axle popped out at some point. Not enough for a bad leak but enough for a small leak.

Takes about 30 seconds to fix.

Actually, after looking at it closer, the seal may just be slightly leaking over time.

Honestly, with the coilover installed and whatnot, you are not going to find an easy time to have this covered under warranty unless a dealer is willing to help you out on the paperwork. This is one of those situations where the modifications on the car may have caused or contributed to the leak, and you can't really say that the coilovers did NOT cause the leak.

Good luck.

It's a cheap seal and pretty easy to replace. I got mine from frsport for ~$15.
