Car will not go into gear after new clutch install?!
So first thing is first. The parts used
- Competition Stage 3 clutch/Pressure plate -Resurfaced OEM exedy flywheel with 38k A buddy of mine who also drives and FRS successfully installed a new clutch on his so I figured he would be the right person to help me with my clutch issue I was experiencing. (Squeaking, having hard time shifting, real soft pedal with little play) All In all we complete the job finally after getting the tranny back on. And we start the car. There is a minor squeak as well as the car not going into gear. Be mindful that it has no problem whatsoever when the car is off. What could this be and how can I fix it? I've searched the forums even on other sites and come up with the same anwsers. Hydraulic, pedal adjustment, and so on. I've bled the system and even adjusted the pedal assembly to give maximum extension with the clutch. Also made sure that the clutch fork is engaging completely which it is. Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thank you ! |

Unfortunately yes you pretty much have to redo everything to check it. In the past when I have had TOB fail ears snap off them and so on I had the same thing would change gears fine engine off but not with it running.

Well, that sucks.
Fess up, how many beers did you have during this operation .... ?? Before @Ultramaroon arrives with the solution ...... I have a comment. Can you see the rod coming out of the slave cylinder pushing on the clutch fork when the clutch is depressed .... ?? If not, I reckon either the master or slave cylinder is bad or their is a bunch of air in the lines. If the rod is pushing on the clutch fork, but not releasing the pressure on the disk, I reckon the TOB is not contacting the fingers on the pressure plate with enough pressure to release the pressure on the disk. Or, the clutch fork is not contacting the TOB properly. I reckon you are going to have to take it apart and put it back together proper, unless you have a bad cylinder. humfrz |

Also, when you have it apart, put in a billet clutch fork. The stamped stock fork will flex with a performance clutch, especially with a stage 3 setup.

Nothing to add except to consider the possibility that the pressure plate is defective out of the box. It can happen.

The flywheel could have been improperly resurfaced, the PP could be faulty, or if this car is like some others, the disk can be installed backwards.
Hey, shit happens. I once realized I failed to reinstall the fork when I was cleaning up after a clutch swap I immediately dove right back in...

before taking everything apart try the simple. As above--- be sure you have got all the air out of the clutch system.

just an fyi sometimes a clutch will require both a vacuum and or a pressure bleed. this is because of the limited volume of fluid moved to the slave if there is air in the line.
