You get severance pay now? From Reserve? Sonofabitch. I got to keep my badges and that was about it.

Yeah, out of my 7 years, I got paid out 2.72 weeks of pay. 2.72 because they stopped doing it 2.72 years into my career. Unfortunately only paid out as Bombardier pay, and not Master. But, free money so whatever

I never got severance for reg or reserve. That sucks since 10 years as a reserve officer and leaving at Lieutenant Commander (Major) pay would have been a shitload of cash.

Definitely. I'm guessing your daily pay would have been around 250/day?

I can totally see why they stopped doing it. Costs so much damn money, especially with the way attrition is within the reserves

They couldn't have done it long since I left in 2003 and it wasn't a thing then.

My pay was $196 a day when I left but if you account for inflation then it would be close to $250 in today's money yes.

Edit:

Ahhhh there we go. I was only reg for 5 years and reserve for 9 years and 8 months. If I had known I would have held out for a few more months!
Not sure how you qualified with only 7 years.

"Under previous severance benefit provisions, all members voluntarily releasing (release Item 4(c)) with less than ten years of eligible service received no benefit. Regular Force members releasing voluntarily with ten or more years of eligible service received a benefit calculated at 3.5 days of pay per year. A Reserve Force Retirement Gratuity (RFRG) benefit for eligible Reserve Force members releasing voluntarily with ten to twenty years of eligible service was calculated at 3.5 days of pay per year; with twenty or more years of eligible service, it was calculated at 7 days of pay per year. Under the new provisions, all severance benefits will be calculated at 7 days of pay for every year of eligible service, including partial years. The requirement to have a certain number of years before being eligible for severance benefits when voluntarily releasing has been eliminated."
