Recommended approach for touching up large scratches.

Hello,

Got hit while parked a little while ago and now I have 4-5 deep scratches on my front bumper that go straight down to the plastic. They're range from 0.5-2 inches long and are all along "edges."

I've heard some good things about Dr. Colorchip, but it seems like it's mostly good for filling lots of little rock chips in an area. Should I go for dealer touch-up & clear coat instead?

I can't really tell where on the front bumper the marks are ..... ??

Bubba says to hit em with a black Sharpie and quit worrying about it.

Of course, Bubba is a slob .....

It's actually difficult to see from far away since its black paint on black plastic, but I want to touch it up to keep the paint form peeling off more. Not really concerned about a perfect color match, but a flush finish would be ideal.

Here's a better overview:

I see.

I reckon either one of the options you mentioned (properly applied) would make them look better.

How did this happen ......since they are separated .. ??

Got backed into at work. If I didn't stop by the bathroom before I left, this would have all been avoided!... came out to see someone inspecting my car for damage =(

Yep, luckily no dents or paint cracks. It was just a sedan! but it came in at an angle. Here's a poorly drawn diagram...

Wait wait wait, you were in contact with the person who damaged it?

Make him/her pay for the damage to be repaired properly in a shop!! (IE: sand/repaint the whole front bumper) don't bandade it with some touch up paint.

I discussed why I'm not/don't want to go through insurance in a previous thread, and here I'm hoping to find some tips on touching this up by hand =)

So far, my plan is to:
(1) chip off loose paint around the edges of the scratches
(2) lightly sand the scratch
(3) apply touch-up in layers
(4) sand smooth, compound & polish

Not expecting it to be invisible, but better off than it is now.

i read your other thread and still don't understand why you wouldn't want your car fixed properly and will accept something that is gonna look pretty bad. If you do put it through his insurance nothing will happen with your premiums and you wont pay any deductible. If you do decide to go with the above method it will look pretty bad, its a brand new car it should be fixed correctly especially since you didnt damage.

Didn't see it but fair enough, best of luck with the repairs!
