HVAC on FRS, color matched to the rest of the dash with white LED

White LEDs make this Scion match with the rest of the car that is Subaru, Toyota.... by Moto@Club4AG, on Flickr

I did this over last night. Quite the pain in the butt.

1. Remove the upper glove box trim panel and radio bezel, gently pull off.
2. Remove the shift gear plate by popping it off upwards, after removing shift knob.
3. Remove center USB/pocket by pulling, popping it off the clips.
4. Remove all 6 screws from lower floor center console.
5. Remove two lower side panels by the foot well.
6. Remove two side panels of the center console, by pulling it towards you after 2 more screws on top.
7. remove 2 screws at the bottom of the HVAC controller.
8. carefully disconnect the 4 harness and 2 cable vent control and temp control cable.
9. Disassemble the HVAC control.
10. The Temp dial and Vent control dial are easy, marked TOYOTA, these have one center wedge bulb at the base of where the cable shaft goes. 5 min each.
11. The center fan controller marked SUBARU is a real bummer as it has internal LED's that have 5 LED's soldiered to the circuit board.
I killed the two for the "1.2.3.4" area, and drilled a new hole, to fit a new wedge bulb and wired them separately.
The center defroster switch area of this part, there was absolutely no way but to re-solder a new LED in different color, so I left this part alone.

I never want to do this again...LOL

The color difference of this panel's illumination has always bugged me. The dash is lit in white/red, and so is the rest of the interior in white. But for some reason the radio display and the HVAC has ORANGE lights from the factory, almost making this part look strange. SO I just had to do this. 3 hour job for me.

Wow. That looks so much cleaner. I too was a bit bothered by the orange light on the HVAC when I first got the car. Thanks a bunch for the step-by-step Moto!!

This is a good walkthrough with pictures for replacing clock/airbag and HVAC lights. I must do this, I just don't want to.
