Lets hope is handles like a BMW but lasts like a Toyota. Also, lets hope it isn't horribly over engineered so that repairs cost 2-3x more than they should. And the front of the concept looks a lot like a 350Z

If it's really a Supra and BMW is involved, maybe it will have an inline-6 after all. My bet is it'll have that hybrid system the Le Mans car has. It could be pretty sweet but definitely going to be $40,000+ which is hard to justify.

Try $75,000, as $40K barely gets you a 1 Series these days.

Your drawing wild conclusions.

It's a deal for battery technology in trade for diesel engines.

I HATE hybrids with a passion. Hopefully, there will be multiple variants from which to choose and not solely a hybrid powertrain. One also has to wonder what kind of price bracket whatever said "sports cars" would occupy being that they're going to be developed with a premium car maker?

I remember an interview with Tada-san where he mentioned the desire to have Toyota's sports car portfolio include two more vehicle types beyond the 86: a smaller sports car and a large sports coupe. As the latest 6 series has just come to market that rules out some sort of an "all-new" platform for a Supra type car, unless Toyota wishes to use that platform to hang it's reputation for reliability on? However, there's definitely the room to collaborate on that "smaller" sports car, like the aforementioned "Z2" that has been rumored about for some time. Of course this is all speculation and whatever "sports cars" to be born of this collaboration won't be seen for a while, but then again that's speculation too.

Yeah, $40,000 was my absolute minimum guess. That's assuming they try their hardest to make an affordable version. But if it's around $80,000, then they're going to have to compete with the likes of the Nissan GT-R (possibly a new one) and the new Honda NSX. Not to mention, the Porsche 911/Cayman, BMW M3, and other performance cars. It's going to have to be pretty darn special to sell at that price point. The only way I see it being a hit, is if they can put it in the $40-60k price range.

I don't don't know about a BMW toyota partnership like that being true but i would love to see a full sporty lineup.

Also "smaller than 86"

I've never seen this before! As small as a Miata? Yes please!

Ey

If it works, produces great numbers, is sound, (hopefull reachable $$), and a legit RWD 6speed - I don't care if its Kia or if its a Daewoo

Two companies are better than one. I prefer 100 alright companies to make 1 amazing car than 1 awesome company making a crappy car

if they can demonstrate the benefits of having such technology that would fantastic. Just the same that's expensive technology to purchase and maintain, if you care about keeping a car (like me).

I think ultracapacitors will make you happy then, as they will probably outlast just about everything else on the car, and you'll never need to change a starter motor or alternator that blows out. The next few years should be good for enthusiasts, if car companies have enthusiasts on their minds at all. Afterwards, MT might go extinct

By the way sorry I was sounding like an ass, I thought you were one of those naive hybrid haters.

Nah, I'm fully aware of the benefits of instant torque from electric motors and the obvious increased efficiency gains, but the idea that they're environmentally friendly I find to be a bit naive: battery toxicity and the impact at the end of life disposal as well as the associated cost of battery replacement are stand outs for me. Again, this is expensive at the door in terms of what you'll be spending in maintenance costs and the at the door purchase price. It's exotic stuff, at least right now.
