You keep your empties and return them to get the deposit back?

Nobody that I know of really bothers to return empties for deposit here in California. We just recycle the bottles.
Growlers don't have a deposit, you can only get one if you purchase it. It doesn't make much sense to me why we don't do it like European countries do, and return the empties back to the brewery or bottle shop, so that they can be sanitized and refilled. That makes a lot more sense to me than recycling them after one use.

https://www.amazon.com/Nespresso-Cit...dp/B01IO2BS60/
I bought one of these and put it in my office. It's OK. It's not real espresso, but at least an acceptable facsimile and works well enough.

Most of that went away with proliferation of aluminum and plastic bottles. Glass bottles had to be thicker (and therefore were much more reusable) to deal with carbonation of beverages.

Edit: it also saves room in the recycling bin (city won't pick them up if they're too full) and puts money in my pocket. I only take them out when I'm running errands in that area of town, so it's only a small detour/trip. |
