You keep your empties and return them to get the deposit back?

Isn't that a normal thing to do? After a week or two, I can return the empties and get a free lunch.

I sure as shit return howlers and growlers cause the deposit on them is 3-6 bucks.

Nobody that I know of really bothers to return empties for deposit here in California. We just recycle the bottles.

Growlers don't have a deposit, you can only get one if you purchase it.

It doesn't make much sense to me why we don't do it like European countries do, and return the empties back to the brewery or bottle shop, so that they can be sanitized and refilled. That makes a lot more sense to me than recycling them after one use.

https://www.amazon.com/Nespresso-Cit...dp/B01IO2BS60/

I bought one of these and put it in my office. It's OK. It's not real espresso, but at least an acceptable facsimile and works well enough.

Used to be common practice in the US, heck I funded my entire childhood off of empty bottle returns thanks to a lack of littering laws and the deposit return. The original 2-liter soda bottles were glass and worth a fortune (to a 10 year old on his way to the local store) in return. I think they were $0.25 a piece as I recall versus the nickle for a standard size soda bottle.

Most of that went away with proliferation of aluminum and plastic bottles. Glass bottles had to be thicker (and therefore were much more reusable) to deal with carbonation of beverages.

I got 12 bucks from the return, for about 10 minutes of effort. Not a bad return for the time invested, really.

Edit: it also saves room in the recycling bin (city won't pick them up if they're too full) and puts money in my pocket. I only take them out when I'm running errands in that area of town, so it's only a small detour/trip.

I take in plastic and cans, but glass is just too much to be worth anything. I used to when I had places that would pay per bottle but everyplace I have been lately doesnt do that anymore.
