VSC/Traction Mod - What is the center 'button'?
Does anyone know what is in the middle slot for the traction control/vsc sport module? Is it possible to cut that part and insert a separate button, or are there other important widgets in there?
Thanks! |

Doesn't look like you could put anything there though. ![]()

Once it's out of the car, the top part of that switch unit pops off very easily (it's held on with plastic tabs). There is a circuit board inside that runs all the way across the switch unit. The existing buttons are not separate switches. They push contacts on the circuit board to activate those functions. I suppose it's possible to mount some kind of switch in that center position, but you would have to work around the circuit board.

Someone on the forums did it, from what I remember the board has switch pads and everything on it, the center switch part just has plastic tabs to stop it from rocking. You'd still need to wire it to something though, which is more work.
Wish I could find that thread, my search-fu is weak |

Addin wiring isn't too hard, there are just open spots on the connector. I just got a used AT switch set, and some pins and probably relays depending on what you want to do.

great. thanks everyone. I have my parking garage door opener and wanted to insert that into there because i dont want another fob on my key chain and dont REALLY want it floating around in my cup holder.
I'll try to find a link or picture where someone has removed it and see if there is any room for another small circuit. |

I got a keychain-size opener on Amazon and stuck it in the slot behind the gear shift with a piece of L-shaped foam so it won't slide around:

The home link mirror was one of the things on the Limited edition I was ambivalent about, but have grown to appreciate a lot. It's a dealer installed option for most of the Subaru models. |
