Today was my first track day ever at Thunderhill and it was amazing. Hook on Driving is super well organized and the coaching helped a lot. My coach ended up confident enough in my abilities to graduate me to solo after the second session.

Huge thanks to @The Racers Line for helping me slowly building my car for track duties over the years and for performing a track inspection before my event.

@PandaBRZ - there still may be a few Solo spots left at Buttonwillow on Sunday, April 2. It's an 86 Cup event, which makes it extra fun. And other people that got into HPDE through Neal will be there, including me.

Kinda off topic but I went karting for the first time ever yesterday. I was not prepared at all. Here's what I learned:

1) Everything I learned at the track the previous day was irrelevant except for learning lines. Karts reward power oversteer and twitch movement. I started out using way too much brake and got on the gas at the apex, which is extremely slow with karts. I was watching others dive into corners with no brakes and just scrubbing off speed while drifting. It was a humbling experience.

2) No power steering is no joke. My arms are sore today because of the extreme effort required for hairpin turns. I ended up ripping off some skin from my thumb because I was driving without gloves and the rubber steering wheel was too grippy. I didn't realize I had an injury until after the session.

3) One 20 min session in a kart was way more strenuous than an entire day at the track. I was drenched in sweat after karting while I never broke a sweat on the track.

4) My track awareness definitely helped me let faster drivers by but also constantly stopped me from getting in a clean lap. The track is just too short with too many people on it at one time for a slower driver like me get in a clean lap.

5) There is very little margin for error. Mess up a corner and you're understeering into a wall. Over cook a corner and you're facing the wrong way. Turn in early and you'll clip the apex wall. It all comes down to knowledge of the track and muscle memory!

Karting was definitely an eye opening experience and another discipline I want to learn!

Here's video of a potato driving around:

Quick question for y'all. I checked my oil today and I was about a quart low of full. Is it normal to lose almost a quart of oil after a track day?

No, I've gone through multiple track days without any noticeable drop in oil level. I assume you checked beforehand and it was full?

Yeah. Neal inspected it and it was full. I topped it off this morning but used more than I thought was normal...
