Nice. I'm on that same tune and I've definitely noticed a very positive difference when filling up with 94 or 100.

Yeah, I don't want to do that. If in traffic or being at a red light, does moving forward in 1st by just releasing the clutch to the engagement point count or would you say I need to just completely get to moving in 1st with gas and no clutch?
Don't think it's really benefiting me since I don't drive the car hard or anything. It's more like treating out a child.

I'm in the camp of either 100% clutch in or 100% clutch out. I don't really like riding the clutch unless I really have to.

I gunned it from a light to get up to highway speed after filling up (pretty sure it wasn't enough time for the two octanes to mix), but the valve noise (or what ever it is that the tune causes to get louder in the upper rpm band) was louder than I remember. Hard to notice a difference since I've been driving the Yaris around. Everytime I get back into the FR-S, it feels like it has TONS of power. HAHA

Yeah, these things are all worse than a little bit of slipping the clutch. Obviously it isn't a good thing to do, but other than some extra wear on the clutch it's not going to hurt anything. And over the life of the clutch that little bit of wear probably won't matter as long as you don't keep doing it forever.

Gotcha, that makes sense. There've definitely been a few times when I was around 1000-2000 but I try not to keep it there long. Still getting used to even considering RPMs at all. I set the setting for the RPM limit (I think it's called that?) to 4000 RPM, but maybe I should drop it to 3000 for now instead.
I wouldn't even worry about the shift light. Pretty soon you'll get used to the car enough so that you won't have to pay attention to the tach.

If you're truly just resting it and not applying pressure it won't really do anything, the problem is it becomes easy to apply a bit of pressure which will make the shift forks start pushing the transmission either into or out of a gear (depending on if you're in neutral or in gear at the time). And that's a bad thing.

Here's my commute. Left turn, right turn, left turn, right turn, merge, drive straights for miles and miles (at least half of the miles of which are in stop and go traffic), exit, left turn, and right turn. The on and off ramps aren't even "round." They're just a slight kink. lol. Oh, and the roads are pot hole ridden. Back when the FR-S was my DD, I'd take those slow turn on and off ramps pretty hard. haha

That's right. I remember something about moving something somewhere, but couldn't exactly remember what. haha. Thanks.

I used to hold the shifter (not rest my hand on it), but even with that, I became a little paranoid of. So now I switch gears and either rest my hand on my leg or on the steering wheel.

Yeah, that sounds pretty reasonable anyway. I think right now my priority is just learning enough to be as smooth as possible, and then once I've reached that point I'll try to fix any bad habits I get into now (hopefully not many).

Haha the funny thing for me is knowing people think this car doesn't have enough power and then, at least for me, realizing it does have a bit of power, or seems to just going from zero to speed without me giving it much gas.

Yeah, get comfortable driving manual to the point of it being second nature to you, then be conscious of bad habits.

I think it's enough power for DD'ing (I would like some more torque tho). I get into either a 5.7 Tundra or a Sienna/Highlander with the 3.5 (not so much with the Tacoma since it's still using a 6-speed), and that's when I think the FR-S is underpowered. haha. But then I hop back into my little Yaris after work, and all is good.

Mine is right turn, right turn, right turn, left turn. Total 2.3 miles.

When I pull into work my engine/oil isn't even up to temp.

Dude I'm pretty jealous. I miss living close to work. Right now my public transit commute to work takes almost 2 hours each way. Walk to bus stop -> bus to train station -> train from SJ to SF -> walk to work.

Takes so long. Eventually I want to drive part way and then hop on the train the rest.

It takes me around 2 miles to just get onto the highway!!!! Depending on where I park (at the dealership or in our storage lot), my commute is 30 or 32 miles...each way...

I take it you're replacing your oil often then since it doesn't get up to operating temp often???

If there's horrible traffic, my commute can take up to 2 hours driving each way

Oh, and either I'd drive the whole way or not drive at all. I wouldn't trust leaving my car at a parking lot.

Usually change it every 6-8 months. Went 11 months last time. I don't think it's a huge deal to extend the OCI when running full synthetic.

But, I have not done a UOA, so technically I'm just guessing.
