MXP Comp RS or Invidia Q300

Hello, I am fairly new to this forum and this is my first post. After owning an FR-S for 10 months, I kinda find the stock exhaust a little quiet for me, so I'd like to change that soon. I am currently torn between the two exhausts; The MXP Comp RS and the Invidia Q300 because they seem to fit my price range and I'm one step away from pulling the trigger. Not necessarily looking for a loud exhaust, but something that is just more noticeable than stock.

My concern about the MXP is that it may be a little loud for me. I'm afraid that I would wake my neighbors up in the morning and/or have them yell at me. I also don't want to attract police attention. Not that the laws are strict or anything, I just want to stay on the safe side. It also sounds similar to the Invidia N1 which is what I want to avoid.

The Q300, on the other hand sounds almost like stock from what I keep hearing, just with a slight rumble, which might be a waste for me. In most youtube videos, they are paired with headers and front pipes (catted or catless), which is not my goal. I just like to know if it's really quiet as they say they are with stock everything else.

I also blocked my sound tube as I want to hear how my stock exhaust truly sounds, which is barely anything and it did get a bit quieter. I still hear the engine for the most part.

Again, I'm not looking for anything crazy that would get me trouble. Medium loudness would be OK for me, but I prefer something deeper and throatier. I'm also not planning to change my headers or front pipe down the road since I'm concerned about emissions. If anyone who owns either exhaust could chime in, I'd like to hear your input.

Thanks.

I prefer the MXP Comp RS over the Invidia Q300, but over both of them I think you'd be better off with the new CounterSpace Garage MXP Gran Turismo 86 Exhaust System (Touring86). I think output-wise it's right between both of your previous choices, and has a great sound. It's a little more money, but I think it's well worth a look.

Question is, you will add catless header down the road?

You would be happy with the Greddy Supreme SP catback.

OP has already mentioned he will not be changing his headers or front pipe due to emissions.

The MXP Comp RS isn't loud so much as it's got that bass. Probably one of the two or three deepest tones you'll hear on this car in a bolt on part. So if you want a more muscle car sound get that one. it has a window of drone about 600 RPM wide. Outside of that, no drone, just bass when you go WOT and on cold starts.

The Q300 is just a little louder than stock and in my mind, kind of pointless when compared to an axleback (much cheaper). If you take long car trips, or live in a VERY conservative area then it might be a good idea. Although I would also check out the Works Axleback (and others) if considering the Q300.

CSG Touring86 is sporty with good presence, but is actually quite quiet.

I love my Q300. Very quiet at idle and cruising down the road but really wakes up nicely when getting on it. I have a couple sound clips on my face book page.

Is that with everything else stock? (Front Pipe and Header?) Most owners of the Q300 have changed their headers and front pipes and I mentioned in OP that I am not planning to do that. Is there a noticeable difference from stock especially when getting on it?

I have a Top Speed el catless header, HKS catless dual resonated front pipe and then the Q300. My system is as quiet or quieter than stock when idling or freeway cruising. But much louder, with a nice sound, when getting on it.

How's the MXP Comp RS for just daily driving? Would it attract a lot of police attention? I'm wary of this exhaust because I heard it's similar to the Invidia N1 which is super loud and droney

one thing to consider between these two exhausts, or the compRS vs other exhaust, is the stainless steel used:

My advice is join up with your local ft86 club. Check out some car club meets & listen to different catback exhausts. Perrin 2.5 resonated is what I choose because it's lil louder than stock & q300. It's loud when it needs to be. MXP I've heard in person which IMHO was louder than my Perrin. Jus my 2¢
