who here changes their own oil?
just curious who here does there own oil changes, and what do they prefer to use for oil/ filter when they do them. also why do you choose to do it yourself rather then taking it into a shop?

Oem filter, Castrol edge 5w-20. And I do it myself because why pay someone else to do something I have no issues doing? Also because I know it will get done right, and don't have to worry about some random lube tech doing something stupid.

To make it even easier, many of us have the "Qwik Valve Fumoto Oil Drain Valve F108S 16mm-1.5" which you can get from qwikvalve.com for about $30. Easiest oil change you'll ever do after slapping it on instead of the drain plug. I've been using them on my cars for over a decade as they are that good.
Get Mobile 1 0w-20 advance fuel economy from Walmart for super cheap, and order stock filers online for super cheap. You'll save so much money you can buy more car parts. If you get a turbo or supercharger I'd run heavier weight oil in the summer months just to be safe or if you track your car.

I also do my own ever since getting the fumoto valve.
No point in paying someone else now.. 2nd time bring the car in to the dealership (had 3 free oil changes), the damn lube tech didn't change gloves and smeared oil all over the outside A-pillar. Also, the greeter put a cone on top of the roof and left a nice scratch. Didn't notice anything until next morning because it was dark when I got the car back. So.. couldn't prove it was them. Oh, Eneos Sustina or Amsoil SS with Subaru filter (because Toyota charges nearly twice or 3x more than Subaru at dealership). |

I change mine. Use Wix XP 51334 filter and mix Cerma Evo with redline 0w-20. It's just fun to do IMO. Can also get more oil out by using a pump after draining it normally.

Fumoto valve.
Eneos oil and Wix filter from NAPA. Easiest change of any car I've had with the filter location.

I do my own because it just seems like a waste of time to go somewhere and then wait on them when I could probably have the job finished in the amount of time it takes to even drive somewhere.

I have change my own oil on all my vehicles for years. The FR-S is the easiest car for oil changes that I have ever owned. (I use Toyota 0-20w in the FR-S)
