Buying an FRS soon, need help

Hello, I'm new to the forum and looking to buy an FRS/BRZ soon. I have been told by every person I've talked to get a 2014 and above, as the 2013s have issues. However, I will be really pushing it with a 2014 and up, as I'm struggling to find a MT in the first place, and when I do they are too expensive.

I do plan to modify the car, probably bolt ons and E85 at the most. Keeping that in mind, the mods won't come for a while. Are the 2013s really that bad? I'm looking at the 10 Series mainly. I plan to get it inspected at a Toyota dealer before I buy one. What are some of the problems/issues I should look for? Should I really just avoid the 2013s at all costs? Any help is appreciated!

If your struggling to afford the car then you cant afford it. Buying the car is the cheap/easy part. Driving/maintain the vehicle is where the money comes in. If you cant afford the car payment then another half a payment or so each month then you really can't safely afford the car. Sure you can take the gamble that nothing will go wrong but inevitably something will and you don't want to have to park the car for a few months to be able to afford to fix it or worse yet take out another loan to fix it. Trust me I've been there and it sucked. These cars are not going anywhere so keep saving!

I recently bought a 2013 BRZ out in Texas. Actually I flew out Friday from Orlando and drive it back Saturday.

Like any car the newer ones are typically more desirable however the basics are the same. If your going to Mod the car but can't afford a 2014 then don't buy the car. You may want this car but it will most likely end up being a struggle for you and make it unenjoyable.

Have you checked your insurance rates for the car? With USAA for the FRS vs BRZ premium were less for the BRZ premium and about the same for the limited and FRS

Hello heatnation3 and welcome to ye ol forum .......

I have had a 2013 FR-S for 4 years (bought it new) and it's never been back to the dealer for anything except the first 3 free services.

So, not ALL 2013s had problems that needed to be sorted out.

The 13's that had the valve timing problem were fixed under warranty fairly quickly.
Most of them are still running fine unless the owner has done something ... odd.

I bought a '13,it'll be two years ago in June with 21k miles on it.I'm at about 32K miles right now and haven't had a single mechanical issue with it.

I would say if you are buying a Twins,don't bother getting a brand new one. Get one bone stock in the best condition and least amount of miles for the best possible price you can find.

Save more. Like already said if its this hard to afford then you cant really afford it. The wait will be worth it to find exactly what is right

Not to be offensive or anything, but I simply came here for help, not financial advice. So to those that actually answered my questions, thanks! To those that gave me financial advice...keep it. 2014s are simply over my budget, I am not willing to spend more than $250 a month and that's what those come out to. Doesn't mean I can't afford it, would just rather spend $20-30 less a month for a 2013!

Anyways, I'm going to be moving on a 2013 BRZ MT in the next couple days, hopefully can put a deposit down and buy my dream car!
