I'm at 300 miles and my rpm will dip from 1500 rpm to a steady 800 rpm while idling when it is warmed up. Haven't had the car died on me or any CEL on, but am concerned now too.

800 is normal it's when it dips down to 400 and sounded like the car is about to stall is the problem.

I understand the frustration from those that have the issue. My feeling is that the issue is a minor problem that will have a quick fix once diagnosed.

I would have been soooo disappointed if I got a CEL on the way home from the dealership! Did they give you any documentation on what they did/tried? It would be helpful to know what sensors they switched around and how it seemed to fix (or did it?) your issue.

The chirping noise I believe is normal, or at least common (though this CEL issue is becoming more common too :/). Another member checked via stethoscope and said that the noise is coming from the DI but the insulation is absorbing the lower-pitched noises so only the chirping remains.

I'll have to check if mine does it when I get home, fairly sure it does.
screw the tech ! i feel bad for the people who has this problam with this brand. new car!

Agree with Hanzo, mine starts at 1500 but goes to 800 after just a few seconds. Most cars I've ever owned did something similar on start-up.

My 6AT is steady as a rock at 800RPM at idle fortunately.

Y'all might wanna compare "Build Dates" to see if there's a relation to people having idle and chirping problems to those who aren't.

You should lemon law the car and pick up a beater. Then save some money up before you buy another FR-S so you aren't paying double the MSRP with a 3000% interest rate. This is your way out.

I'm not surprised that there may be a bug or two in the 1st production units of a new model. I accepted that possibility when i decided to be amoung the 1st to buy this car. Many say they won't buy a new model for the 1st 2 years of production, and that's generally hard to argue with. Toyotas' track record with warranty performance put my mind at ease. If this issue is the only one that appears with early 86 production, I'd say Toyobaru has done an excellent job.

I was just telling a coworker about this issue (I don't know why. She knows nothing about cars and misses her escalade.) and she just dug through her wallet, found a 2012 penny, and told me to put it in the car for good luck and congratulated me.

I told her the car was a 2013. She said, "Oh. You're in trouble then. Just put that in there and swap it out when you see a 2013 penny."

Does this issue only happen to manual?

Seems I recall folks with AT reporting it but didn't back research the thread for it.

I've read two threads here about "vibration" at the clutch, not sure if it's related to the "idle dip"
