BRZ shorty exhaust
Hello everyone,
I designed my own shorty exhaust for the track. I was wondering what would be the advantages/disadvantages of my setup. I have borla UEL, ISR overpipe, DC Sport front pipe and finishing it off with my shorty cat back you can check out my IG if you would like to @that_sinister_mustache_man Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Last edited by 08stiguy; 02-22-2017 at 01:58 AM. |

Are you worried about the high exhaust gas temperatures as they have their early exit directly onto the driveshaft and fuel tank?

As a precaution I have placed a heat resistant patch over the gas tank. As for the drive shaft, not really. The pipe is about the same distance away from it as any other exhaust would be, plus I have the tip pointing down. I ran it pretty hard then threw it on my lift to see how hot it got, not very. I also put quite a few coats of heat resistant primer and paint Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Nice, sounds like you planned out some ways to combat the heat.
The fuel tank is split though, so you may want to put some of that same silver material on the other side of it as well.

you have to make sure the cut out is flat, looks bent. Had a similar set up on my GTI

I would be VERY careful with that setup and exhaust temps. I'm not sure if thermal material will be enough to keep the gas from boiling. If it is, awesome. If not, boiling gas is a very serious problem.
I pounded a curb in my old SE-R lemons car and cracked the exhaust upstream of the gas tanks. Ended up expanding the tank so bad it was spraying gas out of the tightened gas cap. Had the gas tank ruptured (which it probably would have if it weren't for a very observant corner worker that I subsequently bought lunch for) there would have been the possibility of a huge fire on my hands. Just use extreme caution with this setup. Like I said, I'm not saying the thermal liner won't work because honestly I don't know. Just be sure you do |

I'm definitely going to hit up a few other forums for sure to get different points of few and maybe some more feed back on this setup. Quote:
Why have the cut out flat? I have the tip pointing down so it would mix with the Colder turbulent air and wouldn't create a lot of heat. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

After rereading what I wrote, I didn't clearly get my point across. You need the bend, but the cut should be parallel to the ground. google a picture of a turn down pipe and you'll see what I mean. The reason is for airflow, it quiets it down a little, and heat

Pro: lightweight
Con: Getting kicked out of the track after failing tech inspection because exhaust gases aren't exiting rearward enough of the cabin. |
