have you guys done an intake yet?

Looks like these bolts on gave it a close 30hp gain, imagine what tuning and an intake will do. 200whp?

They're also working on getting quotes for 16ga and 18ga 2.5" titanium tubing for us. Should be interesting.
Single exit titanium cat back? Yes please!!!!!

We have done an intake. Haven't had enough time to do much testing on them, we built three designs and did some preliminary dyno testing of them but then the card had to go back to the owner before we could really dig into it. Then we switched gears to the header as soon as it came back. Tomorrow we go back to working on the intake designs.

Can't wait to see what the new catless header is capable of. The catted header that made those power numbers listed earlier on in the thread was really a compromise. There is an optimal length for the secondary tubing on the Tri-Y design, and inclusion of the catalytic converter required that we shorten that by a substantial amount (~5"). So here's the optimized catless design:

Just got done wrapping that design up (literally and figuratively), and plan on getting it out on the road for some preliminary tests here in a few and then continuing that testing tomorrow and fianlly taking it to the dyno in the AM on Friday, then back to Tainen for a dyno day he'll be attending hosted by @virtual_bob in Auburn, WA this weekend.

2 things:

1: What is the "complete" system called? It seems there's so many variables. Header, downpipe, overpipe, axleback, switchback, toe grab, ollie with a spin kick. Did I get that right?

2: I will drive down to Vancouver from Seattle if you'll install it all (once my car arrives from Japan of course). Do you install (and what are your rates)?

25 miles put on it and 15 extra minutes of idle time in two key cycles and no CEL so far with the catless. This certainly doesn't mean that it won't throw one intermittently. I've certainly experienced that in the past - 4 months no CEL, then one pops up, disappears a week later only to resurface 3 months down the line, etc. Those are the worst.

Seems like it's breathing better with the catless vs. the catted header. A little louder, but much smoother rev. Kindof a wash as far as sound goes.

It's evident to us that many of our customers are going to want a quiet exhaust on these and we will be considering our options on this. Simplest way is to offer the suitcase option that we offer on the WRX hatch. I hate those things though, so we're also evaluating methods of using our center-offset or offset-offset canister mufflers. Personally I think the exhaust sounds wicked as it is right now when it's at full-tilt boogie (and you can run around town with almost no exhaust sound at all currently), but if people want quieter, we'll certainly offer it. The other option would be to offer our midpipe with a more aggressive than stock center resonator. I just hate selling parts that don't make additional power if we can avoid it.

And yeah, D, Friday. I'm going to call Aaron and beg to get it in tomorrow. I just have to know if it's making more power or not and if so, how much. Certainly seems to be, but I thought that after the track day and it was a wash. Anyone know of a good butt-dyno calibration service?

Going to throw our short ram intake w/ billet MAF on it tonight and take it out again in the morning and see how it behaves with all the exhaust opened up.

Awesome post, makes me anxious to see the final results and get my hands on one.

The CEL issue on the catless is definitely a concern. I got too spoiled on the Hondata kit just ignoring the secondary O2, hopefully we can do similar in tuning this time around.

I don't think you'll need to. I was able to design a system that didn't require any tune on the 2nd Gen Mazdaspeed3 and it used twin widebands to monitor and the ranges for warmup and efficiency were extremely narrow. It'd throw a code almost instantly when we used the same design from the previous generation. This one has behaved so far. Very promising. We're also going to see if we can simply re-route the secondary harness to aft of the downpipe catalyst. Good chance that will be do-able based on the harness routing from what we can tell, but I'm not wasting time on it until there is an issue. O2 sensor harness extender would do the same. So far so good though. We have skills. :-D

1. It's the McTwist. We're old school. Nah we just call it a full exhaust or a port-back exhaust or a header-back exhaust. I don't really care. I could be like TurnIn Concepts and call it the Legendary Legend of Totally Awesome. :-D I just prefer 'full exhaust.' The factory configuration is a header, an overpipe that gets the outlet of the header over the subframe and into the downpipe, a downpipe, a midpipe and an AxleBack. Most people call the midpipe and axleback a 'catback exhaust.'

2. You come visit us and bring us a six pack and we'll install your parts for the shipping cost. :-D We're not an install shop, so we rarely see customers here in the shop. It's nice to visit with our customers and we'll do you right if you want us to do an installation. It's not difficult on this car. Let us have the car for a few days to do some further prototyping and we'll do the install for free and drop you off at the train station. It's a beautiful ride up through the state and along the Sound for the last leg. Even goes under the Narrows Bridge in Tacoma. :-D

Always looking for more cars to do dev work on until we can swing purchasing one of our own.
