Going Matte Black DYI

Ok so here in about 2-3 weeks i will be going all black to preserve the pain underneath

will do a panel by panel DYI for those who are interested

FYI this will be my first attempt to do so

reasons : did the roof, and I like it so I'm doing the whole car

1. entire car matte black
2. front and rear lights will be baked apart and black chrome finish will coat the inside of the housing(but keeping areas that dont need it untouched for a factory look
3. step-by-step installation and explanation of where it is easiest to start smoothing out the vinyl (will set vinyl 1-3 times if necessary), (will remove doors if necessary too
4 finished product with close ups a week later

i hope yall enjoy when the time comes!!!

Thankfully you're not painting the lenses and doing the reflectors instead!

Do you know if the taillights can be baked open? or are they fused together? I say this because I know the torture of opening the fused rx-8 tail lights.

Take some pictures of the work in progress!

Subscribed!

I was thinking about doing the same thing to mine right away but I like the blue paint too much to cover it up now... but I may still do this in the future. Good luck, I hope it turns out well.

I would be very careful with baking the taillights. LEDs don't like high heat and the plastic on rear lights is not as strong as on the front. But I would love to see the results. How do I subscribe?

Plus it's my understanding baking won't do any good if the tails are plastic welded rather than stuck together with adhesive like the headlights. Has it been confirmed it will even work?

Im looking for confirmation on how the rear lights are. I don't have this vehicle so all I can do is ask! >.>

Because I know how difficult the tail lights can be: http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=213651

I'm hoping that they're not sonicly welded. But more than likely they are, unfortantly. If that's the case, then there's going to be some face time with an actual set of tail lights to see where I could dremel to open.

I drove with ducttape until I could get money for a replacement from ebay ><
