Went over parking block
Hi Guys, my stupid self drives over a parking block and it looks like I dented my exhaust front pipe or header. Is this really bad? I think I have to take it to the dealership tomorrow....

Thats just the heatshield over the front pipe. Its probably fine.
Your header is in front of the oil pan behind the metal skid plate. If that really is dented I'd be more worried about possible damage to the oil pan |

Thanks Finch, that will make me sleep a little better tonight. I will bring it in just in case, and also worried about the oil pan.

Drop the skid plate and have a look at what it's been protecting. Otherwise you just made the skid plate do its job. Might need to replace it if it can't go back to normal shape, but that's better than wrecking your pan or any of the exhaust plumbing.
EDIT: Totally missed the fact that you posted a picture, and thought you were saying you dented the skid plate. I really don't think you did anything terrible. Denting the shield isn't the end of the world, and it doesn't look that bad as far as the dent. The scrape looks ugly, but that's all it really is, ugly looking. Can't hurt to have the dealer look at stuff just to make sure, but don't let them try to railroad you into a bunch of unnecessary hardware replacement.

If it's still running the same and there are no leaks I'd just keep an eye on it and leave it.
Take it to a dealer minor damage like this and your wallet will get raped. |

Then all you have to worry about is backing up ....... and leaving the front lip in parking lot ...... But NOOOOO ....... you just kept on going ...... thinking you could clear the obstacle ...... ![]() I suggest you take your car into the dealer and trade it for a Jeep. (ol humfrz is jest ah messen wich ya .... )Seriously, it doesn't look like anything except the heat shield was scuffed up. Be advised, that not all parking stops are created equal ...... some are taller than others and some have these "barbs" of re-bar that stick up to "hook" your front lip and ...... rip it off. I know, because I have 3 nasty scars under my car's front lip ........ ![]() humfrz |

It's totaled, sell car, buy a Honda. It might blow your balls off when you least expect it.

Just the heat shield for the secondary cat. Don't worry, you did no damage of any sort.

Thanks for all the re-assurance guys. I took it to dealer for free oil change and they did not say anything. Everything seems fine.

humfrz: Funny that it's not just these sporty-coupe-ish twins that are low. I noticed that many latest/modern "common/average/family" cars don't have much ground clearance either. +2-3 extra cm to that of ours and that's it. And on contrary almost all cars (including sport-ish) some 30 years ago had high ground clearance. Like only SUVs or more off-road prepped cars (eg. crosscountry/allroad/outback/XV) have these days but back then - all of them were high, including compacts (eg. golf MK1-2)/sedans/saloons/coupes (orig. hachiroku, datsun Z, mustang of first few generations), with body often starting from wheel center line.
And what's weird .. i don't see roads getting better vs that era, to warrant such generic ground clearance reducing trend. On average at least here roads only had became worse. |
