Here's one for you.

Of the 69 people that registered on this forum as one of the "First 86" winners, 18 were autos.

So, even out of the folks that were enthusiasts enough to register to win the car, follow through on it, and then seek out a forum to talk about the car in the very early stages, 26% of us ordered automatics.

That was after the opportunity to drive them in Long Beach when we could have changed our minds. I had the opportunity to drive them both back to back.

As I recall more people changed their color at this last opportunity than changed transmission type after driving.

Hence your indifference to transmissions. It's no muscle car but done properly with stock tires it'll draw some nice elevens.

...I've heard.

Whooooa wait a second here. "indifference"? I personally would never buy a car with an auto ever again if I can avoid it. My defence of, and support for, the auto AT in this car is based on the fact that it is not your normal everyday AT but something special that does the job well. I am not indifferent at all I just totally understand how some could prefer and enjoy the AT for the pluses it has and not just off hand rule it out 'cuz sports car.

And doing elevens is not "burning out". In fact if you burn out on launch with these you will be lucky to get 12s.

Err...can I just interject here a bit?

Not quite correct cons for A/T:

You've pretty much full control over it when you want to, using the paddles (move the shifter sideways and apart from 1st gear start, it's like any other gear change except you get rev matching added)

Of course you can.

Procedure:
- Get rid of the TC (5s button press)
- Press the brake hard
- Step on the throttle

The revs will start rising. The rears will start spinning somewhere slightly over 2k rpm.

Burnout achieved.

Having stock tyres helps, sticky ones are harder to get spinning, and keep spinning.

This is not a sweet burnout. It's just a lame burnout.

There's no substitute for the third pedal when it comes to doing a sweet burnout.

Apologies, I did not know that you've categorised your burnouts.
To me it's spinning tyres, noise + burned rubber = burnout.

Do you think you're a bit of a burnout snob?
