I previously thought that any track pad would scrape off the transfer layer (including any transfer layer from the previous pad) after a bit of commuting, due to being more abrasive at lower temperatures.

Just to be clear, mine were never silent. They always made some form of noise (but so do stock ones if you REALLY listen carefully), but they weren't obnoxious. There was some squealing a few days after a track day, but it wasn't as bad as buses or dump trucks and wasn't every stop. Typically only the first few stops.
