Yeah, never meant to argue what colloquialism was dominant at the time, only that for 50+ years US auto manufacturers clearly described it as a 'manual transmission'.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to make maple syrup? Much easier to crush some beets.

I am still trying to figure out who first boiled 10 gallons of tree sap to end up with a quart of maple syrup. And then tasted it.
