Unlike the new 86, I actually think they did a good job with it. I really like that they brought the infotainment area up to 2018 standards.

Missing an option for a 2.0L turbo... Or even a 1.8L turbo hybrid. Toyota is kind of behind in the powertrain dpt IMO. Just running on the same engines for over 15-20 years now.

In some pictures it looks decent. In other pictures it looks scary.

Seems to be the trend with modern Toyotas.

The headlights are bland in terms of shape relative to the scoops and "face mask." Adding LED stripes really isn't the solution.

Also, long and narrow taillights are becoming derivative. I get that it reduces visual height off your frumpy tail section, but designers need to start getting more creative; adding LED stripes is, again, not the answer.

At first I liked the Maxima, then I saw one at night. You have the projectors, LEDs and foglights all emitting light that is a slightly different hue and brightness and it looks god awful. A similiar criticism should be applied to any automaker that installs blue LED running lights and halogen projectors that are super-duper yellow.

I think all of my problems with midsize sedans come down to LEDS and how they seems to be crutch to designers in some way.

Except the Mazda 6, which to me is the most cohesive and elegant design on the market today - doesn't rely on a lot of visual complexity to avoid being called bland.

Much like the new 86 there are too many conflicting angles for my taste. The hood, bumper, grill, lights and "vents" all take of in different direction and none of those directions flow back into the body well. It is like a mask slapped on the front of the car. The perspective of some pictures just make this stand out more than others.

Doesn't help that half the pictures are taken at angles which show what you would see if you were two feet tall. Maybe they are looking to the future and marketing to three year olds!

Remember when your basic family sedan was less "edgy" than a Lamborghini? I remember.
