Why do people drive fast in the rain/snow?

People who have never lost traction have no idea how much grip is lost in the wet, if you've never found the limit then you think you are invincible, it's an easy mistake to make. I bet everyone posting here has been stupid about something they had no experience in until they got smacked upside the head by reality.

Shame that it's allowed to happen for people getting behind the wheel of a 2 ton missile. Blah blah blah better driver education whatever.

Proper following distance and road visibility are key, you can fly down the freeway safely at 80mph with a modern well maintained car in the wet as long as the visibility is there and the traffic isn't.

Agreed. Luckily for me, all the times i lost traction was at low speeds and I didnt hit anything. Once was a curved off ramp, going 20-30 and hit a patch of black ice. Scared the shit out of me, counter steered for a second and was back in control.

Never going over 20 on a curved off ramp in bad conditions again.

Lol when it snowed heavily a couple weeks ago and half the roads were ice, I went to a big empty lot and was testing what the limits changed to. Can no longer carry momentum like always, or it'll all just make me under steer to death

I grew up where we got a lot of snow. We learned how to drive in it and somehow survived with snow tires and RWD, not ABS, VDC or other nannies. We just drove with a little common sense. Now I live in KS and we don't really get a lot of snow. Seems that we have two types of drivers. They go 20 under the speed limit if it starts flurrying with a death grip on the steering wheel and the wipers on full high or 20 over in there SUV in the icy snow packed roads passing everyone and ending up upside down in the ditch. Once I counted about 15 on the way to work

A non-Mexican should NEVER drive in Mexico .......

Why?? Just take a cab down there and you will understand. It takes years of driving down there to be able to survive .......I don't care how loaded or stoned you have driven.

Meh, you just have to know that they don't want to get hit either and just go for it. Same goes for the Philippines. Merges that get people all bent out of shape in the U.S. are normal there.

Ive been in Minnesota last year when the first snow hit, and usually the ones that ended up in the ditch had theese fucking useless All Season Crap Mounted.

I looked in some parking lots - 90% all Season.

Even my fucking Rental had them, and i had to carry the thing.

Yeah that is the case. I used to be a delivery driver for 6 years in Southern California but it was crazy how people would freak out, like driving in the rain is a new thing lol. I would watch my speed when I was driving and there were times I would go slower cause the rain would hit harder in some parts of the freeway.

Why do they drive as if they are on dry tarmac? Is it because they are ignorant and never wrecked or spun out on a wet surface and feel as they are invincible? Do they think they have the skill and vehicle ability to drive in that manner? Or is it because they are late and need to get their as fast as possible regardless of the the road conditions.

I sure as heck wouldn't drive the FR-S like I stole it in the rain because are our cars already likes to spin the tires and I wouldn't push it on wet roads.

What is your take on this guys? Have any of you ever wondered why do some people drive this way when it is snowing or raining?

i thought the same way until i bought my first set of top rated all seasons. i drive fast in all weather conditions because i have the right equipment to do so that doesnt make it a hazard
